Transaction fee error I hope

I am new to bitcoin and wallet things, I try to buy something for US $4 (0.0000814) online, actually 3x times to try settle an online digital item order.

I had made several transfers but forever order payment never complete, and I didn't know why...

I am shock to the core to find out Electrum transaction fee, after doing conversion.

Seriously?

Can you confirm this is an error in your system charging USD 40 every transfer I made? And I can get some sort of refund if this is a system error, which I whole heartedly hope it is.

Check your units. Electrum by default has its currency units set as mBTC. This means that it is actually 0.0001131 BTC

Nonsense.

$4 = 0.0093 BTC (that's 9.3 mBTC)

Not 0.0000814 BTC (0.0814 mBTC)

0.0000814 BTC is only $0.04

Then perhaps you should have posted this in the Electrum sub-forum.  Now a moderator is going to have to move it there for you (unless you move it yourself).

Possibly, but probably not.  Perhaps if you gave us something useful to investigate with we could help you figure it out.  For example a transactionID or the address you were sending to and time that you were sending the transaction?

As written by others I also think that this is a unit mixup.
And you can check it very easily by checking if the remaining fund in your wallet is USD 120 (3x40) lower then what you expected it to be.

As for refund request.
Once transactions are in the blockchain they can't be changed or refunded.
If you sent someone too many bitcoins you can kindly ask him to refund you but you can't force him.

In case of fees it would be even more difficult because the fee is given to the miners that secure the network and you do not know who they are.
