So i happen to have 18+ BTC now  Grin (Result of Gambling/Sportsbetting  Roll Eyes).I want to hold them till halving and then i will sell all of it so i want to store them safely.Currently i am storing them in electrum cold storage but i want to store them more safely so advice me if i should go for Trezor or Paper Wallet.I don't own printer Sad so should i buy trezor for 0.30 BTC or Cheap Printer 0.12 BTC ?

PS I know electrum cold storage is secure but still that does not provide peace of mind.I know chances are low but i still fear that if someone just got lucky and somehow by luck create new wallet and got the same seed then i will lose all the bitcoins  Shocked

You can print that paper somewhere else but it can be not secured enough. I would suggest you to buy a trezor, it is more portable and you can use it easier than a paper wallet.

Your fear is excessively unreasonable. Here are more unreasonable fears:

1. Someone might get lucky and generate your paper wallet's private key.
2. Someone might get lucky and generate your Trezor's seed.

2. There is a chance that someone might generate your Trezor's seed.

This! Chances that someone by accident gets the same seed as you is as likely as someone winning a large lottery several times in a row. Might as well be afraid that you get hit by space debris[1] thrice in a single day which is still ~340 times[2] more likely than you losing your bitcoin.

Edit: typo

Im not really here, its just your imagination.

Both is good to go.Although Trezor is way cooler of course!
Keepkey would be another good hardware wallet.Costs are the same as for Trezor.

1.Well private key is 256 bits that's 2^160 combinations not possible
2.Trezor seed can be upto 24 random words which will also be impossible to regenerate

The problem with electrum seed is it is only 13 characters and the list of words is limited and openly posted and with the bad RNG the seed can be compromised. That's not the case with Trezor i guess

If someone by chance get the same seed as me in Electrum, then whats the point in creating it in the first place? I think Electrum is safe enough and for someone to get the same seed as you, I think it is almost impossible mathematically speaking. If it can happen, I think whats the point of this wallet which I am using daily online and keeping quite a nice quantity of BTC (over 3) , should I change or buy a hardware wallet. I think its working very fine until now, but doubts have arised now, although I believe in Electrum I am waiting for an answer from a much experienced member of this forum.

Even hardware wallet have seeds but it depends on the number of them, for example ledger hardware wallet has 24 seeds but it's hard to believe for someone to guess the same seeds.

Most of the comments above make very good sense.

I have a Trezor and a Ledger Nano.  I am happy with both.  Consider buying both!

I believe in diversification.  Putting some BTC here, putting some there.  If you feel that you can manage having your BTC is different places (that would include some in an online wallet), then consider that.  The online wallet (mine is at blockchain.info) can be used if you are traveling and you do not have or carry your hardware and/or computer.

Same idea with some BTC is you mobile device.

you should buy trezor for 0.30 btc rather than just a printer and with 18 btc i know you can afford to buy trezor wallet. Keep that wallet in safe place. Wink

I still think paper wallets are quite good choice. A printer can be used for other purposes as well. To me, a computer without a printer is not complete.

1. Someone might get lucky and generate your paper wallet's private key.
2. Someone might get lucky and generate your Trezor's seed.

Confused if its the irony or an reasonable argument behind those statements. The probability of any of that happening is as good as someone using a faucet plays on 9999* with 0.0999% chances of winning a dice I reckon.

@OP : If money is not a problem then go for Trezor.

You need not worry that someone might duplicate your electrum seed, and you need not worry about the fears I listed. None are impossible, and all are incredibly unlikely.

The seed created by Electrum has 128 bits of entropy. This means that it provides the same level of security as a Bitcoin private key (of length 256 bits). Indeed, an elliptic curve key of length n provides n/2 bits of security.

This is complete nonsense! Not only is it so unlikely it will simply not happen, on top of that every bitcoin address uses a private key. So if you're afraid your paper wallet's private key will get "guessed", there is no safe place without a private key to store them.

both have own their benefits, but to be honest, i would prefer a paper wallet because bitcoin user in my area is still rare, so i don't think if there's a robber in my area aiming for my paper wallet, hardware and paper have the possibility to be broken, trezor hardware can't be easily damaged but you can generate paper as much as you can with ultra cheap cost

Both have pro's and con's but I'm siding with paper wallet on this one. If your goal is just to keep you BTC safe and nothing more, go woth paper wallet. Buying a trezor just to safely store your BTC's for me is not wise since both can serve same purpose. Other is just less expensive.

i personally prefer paper wallet over trezon, although trezor wallet is secure and has good features that are handy but i don't like paying for something that i can have for free.

it just needs some work and some search, but it can be done easily and securely.

I think whatever you end up with will keep your coins safe. Even a paper wallet is secure when you take proper care of it and store it in a safe place in your house plus it's virtually free. Just get whatever solution makes you happier.

I will go with the paper wallet as it is the cheaper one and you will benefit from the printer in you life. just attach the printer to an offline pc and generate your address safely
