Are there any suggestions as to how many individual people are approximately using Bitcoin / have used Bitcoin in total?

This is really interesting in my opinion. Smiley

How many people have tried this beautiful piece of technology at their own fingertips?

I wonder also. I haven't seen anything recently about the number of users. Or anything that was done in a scientific way. As a question its quite problematic. You can count wallets, nodes, Tx, block volume, tweets, online searches, etc. But all will end in a statistical guess because all the data are just corollary.

I think it's agreed that bitcoin continues to still grow. But.. Huh

EDIT: Perhaps the network hash rate is a better measure than users? It is a at least a number and not an opinion or interpretation. And if bitcoin is just a protocol then this measure of it's strength must mean something. You can see it graphed in the link below, which also has other relate graphs.

I've seen a couple of other threads with a similar question, it is something that a lot of us would like to know.

How you would determine unique users is something that appears to be a stumbling block, a wallet address is no good and even this forum not every user would have come here and even then you can have multiple usernames, it will be interesting to see if someone figures out a way this can be done.

Is it possible to tell how many wallets are out there?
That would not tell us how many people use bitcoins out there, but it would give an upper limit (I don't think that two people share one wallet).
And if we would have the number of wallets an everage person owns, then we could combine those two informations and come to a reasonable number of bitcoin users.

This number is not know as an individual can have access to several different wallets at any given time.
They hold any where from 3-5 different address at any given time, if you are heavily into bitcoin that is.

coinbase alone has:
Users‎: ‎2,800,000 (Nov 2015)

so im guessing alot more then that. but when i talk to people i prefer to use low numbers instead of exaggerating numbers out of thin air. so atleast 2.5mill people are using or have used bitcoin in the last couple years.(to be on the safe side)

According to my own experience most people just heard from Bitcoin but never used or tried it. The technological wall is simply to high for most "normal" people. For that reason, I think that less than 1 million people worldwide did try Bitcoin so far. I hope this will changes in the future.

I've wondered that many times, always getting to the conclusion that it's impossible to know. I don't know how many addresses I'm having right now, and I forgot how many wallets I've had trying different client over the years. So the answer cannot be found in the blockchain, and you can't find it by adding the number of customers of all exchanges: I have an account at 3 different exchanges!

I used to be a citizen and a taxpayer. Those days are long gone.

This is good, no doubt about it. Sadly, the guy is from Lithuania. Hardly a leading European country. The effect would be 100 times greater if he was German, but maybe some colleagues from larger countries were listening. Maybe...

yeah i doubt that there will be any ways to check how much people are using bitcoins because some might use over a hundred wallets and some might just have one single wallet

it would be really interesting to know the statistics but i think that there would be less people than we actually expect because most users are just same ones not only in wallets but on this forum too

I think that maybe 10% of the users are alt accounts of existing users, but that is actually a really interesting graph and it does kind of put a small portion of the people that use Bitcoin into perspective.

I wish that more sites would publish data like this, so we could get a better idea of how big Bitcoin really is.

Are there any suggestions as to how many individual people are approximately using Bitcoin / have used Bitcoin in total?

This is really interesting in my opinion. Smiley

How many people have tried this beautiful piece of technology at their own fingertips?
There is no exact data because most bitcoin users prefer to remain anonymous.Does it really make any difference whether we know the number of users or not?I think it doesn't

It really doesn't matter but I think that the users who are on this forum are only using and holding bitcoin rest of the world is still not aware about the bitcoin yet.

I think we need to do a survey to know how many individuals people are using bitcoin
But we need to add more question in that survey, Who earned a lot of money, Who earned in betting, mining, trading?

This would be great to know and I have wondered this myself.  Very difficult to know with all of the different wallets individuals have.   I think the number is still quite small.  I know people into tech that do not know of bitcoin or simply dismiss it.

I love Bitcoin
