I'm quite sure the Casascius coins will be collectors items one day, since they're beautiful and coins are already collectors items.
Well, if bitcoin survives, the Casascius coins will outperform the bitcoin, sure. But do you believe the 25Ƀ coin will be traded for millions on top of the millions in pure bitcoin value? I see
somebody is trying to sell them already at 220% but find this rather bold given the fact that you never know if the coin went through the hands of somebody with good radio scanning equipment emptying the coin at any future point. Sure Casascius has to sell them above face value due to production costs but in this example people already try to sell this production costs for $300. Sorry that is a joke.
That's me selling those coins
They're not at 220% though: the silver itself is worth about $30, and back when they were for sale you could buy them for about 15 Bitcoins. Since these are now no longer for sale, and as far as I understand, will no longer be produced, I've raised the price. I used to sell them for lower, but they're literally irreplaceable now.
"Good radio scanning equipment" is not going to be able to read the ink on a bit of paper through a reflective sticker. That's not a serious concern.
Will they be worth the price premium if Bitcoin goes mainstream,
even with the higher Bitcoin price? Personally, yeah, I think so, but that's up to anyone wanting to buy to decide.
The 1 BTC original series one Casacius is selling for about 2 BTC as well.
Can you point out anyone selling for 2 BTC a piece? I'd like to buy his entire stock.
