Excellent, any ideas if this will cause a little pump in the price?
I'm sure people are excited about this, but it's not interesting enough to get a rally to start. On the other side, there is the block halving that will give us a good enough pump at some point before the halving takes place. It gives you a bit more time to continue accumulating coins.

Nice, looking forward to this! I actually thought they already did but maybe I read they planned to rather than actually did (at the time).

Seems like you posted in the correct section eh haha, I posted it 3 days ago in off-topic and the news died in oblivion.
Unfortunatly, Gaben mentioned that at no point in time would Steam be holding bitcoin, which means it is just to let customers be happy

And I think he should not hold any, they are in this to make "dollars", not bitcoins. They get some indirect advertising while the people talk about it too, which is good. I think I've read somewhere that the payment provider is gonna be Bitpay but don't quote me on that.
I think it is the most probable. But that does not matter as long as they take bitcoins.

no they haven't yet. steam and accepting bitcoin is a very long story with different stages it first came out as someone found some code in steam IIRC pointing to some changes that lead to believing they are adding bitcoin (it was more of a rumor but a strong one) and then a couple of days ago it was official when steam sent out Email to their developers and game makers saying we are planning on adding bitcoin.

Welll, considering that it isn't undervalued anymore, I think Valve now understands that it might be worth accepting it, and there is a community willing to spend it. I know I would if I wasn't waiting for the halving to come around. Quite excited for this, maybe this is driving the price up.

First of all, PRAISE THE LORD GABEN Finally, the thing i've waited is confirmed. Using bitcoin to buy steam games would make it cheaper for me rather than buying it with steam wallet. I hope that this is implemented all around the world, not only the USA. But by "using external payment provider" does it mean that they are using third-party? Valve is most likely going to use BitPay to facilitate the Bitcoin purchases on Steam and I am waiting for BitPay officials to confirm or deny this it should be made clear in the coming days I guess. As for cheaper Steam games with Bitcoins I think Valve is going to charge people the exact same amount regardless of the method of purchasing so I fear we won't have any discounts if we use Bitcoin. I may be wrong though but Valve seems not to want to differentiate its customer base between Bitcoin and fiat that much.

I believe this is a very good thing. Steam recognized potential of btc and we can finally use our coins there. I see people talking about discount if we use btc there, well its a nice thing but I dont need it, for me its important to buy something with btc discount will come like any other. We will wait for good moments to make some purchase.

It will be a good move to incentivize Bitcoin use with discounts on all purchases made with Bitcoin, but the other payment companies will complain, if this is done. They have had a monopoly for many years and will not want to give any market share to any other new payment option. I will definitely make use of this opportunity to buy some of the latest releases once this is announced. ^smile^

Happy that this is confirmed, this is going to be great for both of them but especially for Bitcoin. With this people that use steam are going to know what Bitcoin is and maybe get interested in Bitcoin.

It would be so nice if there will be more people that is going to use Bitcoin on Steam so you can pay now easily your games with Bitcoin and that is so nice, but you need to make an investment in Bitcoin itself. So if that will happen than you are making it both more popular in using and that would be perfect.

Yes you should have posted it here. Here is Bitcoin discussion. And when a company or platform accepts Bitcoin it definetely fits in here. Doesn't matter if Valve is holding any bitcoins or converting it to fiat via payment processor. For now it's onl important that they accept Bitcoin. Let us do small steps at the beginning.Over the time these steps will get bigger and bigger.

Finally, after through several years waiting for this to happen. It's finally here, Steam will accept Bitcoin. I remember there used to be a person who asked us to ask Steam to accept Bitcoin together by sending them an email or something, and I think it finally works.

it is very good to see that they have finally listened to all the requests that people were sending to them and asking them to add bitcoin as payment. and i think one of the reasons is also the price of bitcoin which is rising and it is not at all like a couple of months ago stable.

Weak hands have been complaining about missing out ever since bitcoin was $1 and never buy the dip. Whales are those who keep buying the dip.

This is a great thing that Bitcoin is also interested in the gaming industry and community. It would help Bitcoin allot if people from the gaming community signed up for Bitcoin to. First the gambling sites and now Steam, Bitcoin is going in to the right direction.

Looks like a good news. If even they launch this in pilot plant i am sure it will be great success for them and more exposure for bitcoin economy and for sure good for price stability in future.

The news are insanely good because not only now we can buy any games with Bitcoin, but imagine the amount of free publicity that Bitcoin is going to get once it hits Steam. All the people in Steam will see that a new payment option is available and they will become curious about what the hell is that Bitcoin thing, this can turn a lot of people into Bitcoiners.
