Know how they say you can get Hep C by shopping on Overstock? That's totally not true.

This is indeed the first step to adoption by the mainstream. Who wants a money that can't buy you any to eat? We can now benchmark bitcoin price to 1KG of potatoes!

Huh. That's actually a great idea to inadvertently have farmers accept Bitcoins for payment. Obviously if they had to deal with Bitcoins I can tell you a lot of farmers aren't technically inclined enough and wouldn't put in the effort to learn about them.

Farmers world wide are still being taken advantage of because terrorist organization known as central banks are intentionally devaluing their country's currency.
Bitcoin will allow farmers in other parts of the world to sell their produce for market value.

It's a good thing that farmers are finally getting in on the action, maybe we'll see a lot of the fundamental producers shifting towards Bitcoin and creating demand that way.

I'd be quite glad to buy from a farmer who uses Bitcoin, but I don't think they're going to start accepting it in my area anytime soon.

Wow I didn't know that Overstock has a Farmers Market  Shocked I just found the tiny tab on the top and decided to check out what they are offering but the prices are so high I don't know if it's worth purchasing from Overstock. I guess it's expensive because it's organic produce and all but breakfast bundles with nothing special in them cost as mush as $70 what the heck? Do you know if someone is buying these as I am not from the USA just curious. Can you find better deals if you shop around in your local supermarkets?

The move is indeed a good one and it could seriously help farmer have a easier throughout experience (considering they know the basics of how to use BTCitcoin) but since they aren't exactly the normal techy people, I found it hard to see this will have a significant impact on their selling experience (at most a small portion of them only). At the moment, it won't influence much but in the next 10 years, it could be everything for them.

I don't believe that farmers world wide using bitcoins, because you can see most of the countries do not use the bitcoins, also citizen people have not too much know about bitcoins, where i m living in my country i don't think that 10000 people know about bitcoin out of twenty crore peoples, so how can possible farmers people using bitcoin alot of. i think only one farmer using bitcoin out of one crore.

One of the primary reasons why food prices are increasing is this | There are too many middle men | If you look at the percentage of the food price the farmer contributes, you will find that it will be the smallest in the chain. Bitcoin should eliminate some of these middle men, and food should be bought directly from the farmers.

How much food spoils because it takes days before it reach the consumers. If the local farmer wants to sell his produce directly to the consumer, he should get the biggest percentage of the profit, and he will not have to receive reduced prices, because it gets exported and he gets higher prices on the global markets after the middle men took their cuts.

Subsidized farmers in many countries are killing smaller local farmers in other countries due to cheaper imports and they have to sell at a loss to get rid of their produce. Let them rather sell directly to the consumer on these local markets.

You are quite right that if we manage to do this then Bitcoin will reach mainstream in no time, yet what you are asking, is quite impossible to be achieved in a short amount of time, and very difficult in long period of time, but I also hope someday after we have collected enough bitcoin, it reaches mainstream and its value skyrocket.

Bitcoin should eliminate some of these middle men, and food should be bought directly from the farmers.

Which middlemen would you like to eliminate? I live in a huge city, are you suggesting I drive 100 miles each time I need to buy some tomatoes, and then drive to a lettuce farm for my lettuce? And do this 3 times a week?

Quote
How much food spoils because it takes days before it reach the consumers.

Surprisingly little. Far less than what would spoil without the middlemen you want to oust.

Quote
If the local farmer wants to sell his produce directly to the consumer, he should get the biggest percentage of the profit, and he will not have to receive reduced prices, because it gets exported and he gets higher prices on the global markets after the middle men took their cuts.

Not sure where you hail from, but here in US the farmers are free to sell their product to the highest bidder. If that bidder happens to be a middleman, so be it. If that bidder happens to be our government paying them not to plant, that's fine too. Free market and all that.

Quote
Subsidized farmers in many countries are killing smaller local farmers in other countries due to cheaper imports and they have to sell at a loss to get rid of their produce. Let them rather sell directly to the consumer on these local markets.

Farmers are free to *not* accept subsidies. Government subsidies are just one of the tools a country can use to benefit its economy Smiley

If as the above quote everything happens, without doubt bitcoin goes mainstream. But bitcoin acceptance in small offline and online shops takes time for implementation.

I agree on this and this is what bitcoin really missing to get attention from small business owners. A small we accept board in those shops in remote areas and even in cities will increase curisity about what is bitvoin and we all know falling in love into bitcoin starts from that question.

Farmers in 3rd world countries {small subsistence farmers} can use Bitcoin on mobile phones to buy and sell goods without the need to pay huge fees to greedy banks. Most of these farmers primarily

supply their own needs, and can benefit from Bitcoin with the options it gives them to do micro transactions. Farmer A can sell some extra carrots for a few cents and then buy some goods at a local

shop and pay with Bitcoin. If they did that through the expensive banking system, they would have lots most of that income to high fees being charged. Instead of bartering for goods, they can now

use a inexpensive tools to trade with other... If the merchant did not want to trade for carrots, he can still trade with others and buy with Bitcoin.

The thing is, I'm from a third-world country, and farmers here cannot even afford a simple mobile phone that can send and receive bitcoin transactions, so I think the path for bitcoin here for our dear farmers are too narrow to seize the opportunity bitcoin is offering. Also, the irony is, farmers who are providing us the food we need are those who can't even afford to have something to eat for themselves and their family, which is saddening.

It's funny because stellar is already doing this in Africa, with farmers etc.

Wow that's great news. Happy to hear some crypto currencies are doing this for a good cause. The morea diversified amount of people using bitcoin, will make bitcoin a succes in the long end.
It's not just for the internet generation.
