Hey All,

So I'm new to bitcoins, but very interested in them.

I signed up to Coinbase, but I don't really want to link my bank account to it (or wait 4 days).

I also downloaded the original client, it's still "syncing" after 30 hours.

I know Paypal is a risk for the BTC seller, I can point to plenty of references outside of this forum if anyone is interested.

Any recommendations on where to buy coins at fair market price with Paypal, or a way to make it somewhat anonymous? I'm not too worried about the anonymous part, but I'd prefer it if possible.

And I'd rather not spend a bunch of time mining/visiting sites for coins.

Thanks!

I don't know about PayPal. There is certainly a way with credit cards head over to https://www.btcquick.com/
Nevertheless, you'll have to pass a one time verification before you are able to purchase coins. The delivery is pretty fast.  Tongue

You're probably not going to find a seller that will do Paypal with a new person, but if you want the funds fast the best way is going to be with a Bitinstant cash deposit.  Just go to their website, put in your info and how much you want to pay, print out the payment slip, and bring it to the nearest MoneyGram location with the cash.  There is a very low fee (somewhere around 5%) and the money is deposited almost instantly.  If you're willing to wait 48 hours and pay up to 15% in fees, you can also buy them with your Paypal at Virwox using this method: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/VirWoX#How_to_buy_bitcoins

BitFloor.com allows cash deposits at any Bank of America branch (0.4% fee for market order)
BitInstant allows cash payments at any MoneyGram location ($4 + 3.99% fee)
localbitcoins.com provides a way to find individuals in your area willing to meet in a public place and exchange cash for bitcoin (or bitcoin for cash)

EDIT: As of 2013-04-17 BitFloor has ceased all operations.

It took me a while to find my bearings but BitInstant is actually quite fast and easy. It cleared into MtGox within 45 minutes or so.

At http://paypal.buybitcoins.com  paypal payments are accepted for Bitcoins.  Users are required to share their location and to upload a legal photo ID before bitcoins are sold to them. Caution is unfortunately taken  to deny a majority of the orders that are placed through this website.

But if you're legitimate, feel free to submit an order and you will be able to purchase bitcoins using your paypal.  You'll need an MtGox user account to withdraw your bitcoins since all withdrawals are made through Mt.Gox redeem codes.  The only fee charged is a 12% premium to current Mt.Gox rates with a hope to reducing the rates in the future.
It's sister website buybitcoins.com accepts credit card payments for bitcoins.

Any recommendations on where to buy coins at fair market price with Paypal, or a way to make it somewhat anonymous?

Those are mutually exclusive terms.   You can buy bitcoins and then mix them to lose the traceability to the ones you bought.     Or you can buy with cash where your identity is never associated with the coins that end up in your wallet.

As far as buying with PayPal, ... that too is going about it the wrong way.  Cash methods work best for fast and cheap.  If you are in the U.S., see the other reply referring to BitMe and BitFloor.  If you insist on PayPal, then:

At VirWoX you can buy Second Life Lindens (SLLs) and pay for that purchase with PayPal (or credit card too).  Then you can trade those SLLs for BTCs on their SLL/BTC exchange, and withdraw bitcoins later (within about a day).  That's about the only method:

If you have a prepaid debit card from PayPal, you might find that using that card to buy bitcoins through LiqPay is another method.  LiqPay is a payment method used by a few exchanges, including BTC-E:

There's also new methods to use PayPal for buying coins discussed in this thread:

Buying bitcoins w/paypal

You probably linked your account to paypal the exact same way coinbase links to the account, it is not such a big deal. I would say coinbase is the easiest way for US people who have money in a bank account to get it into bitcoins.

Use CoinBR to trade bitcoin stocks: CoinBR.com
