Hey guys. I gambled away the last of my bitcoins some months ago because I thought I was done with them. Out of curiosity, is Mining still a viable way to obtain Bitcoins? I used to get like.. maybe a coin every 2 days (not running non-stop) from some pool I was in.

Card: 5770

I am soon to buy the 650TI 2gb

5770 is about 200MHash.

You can put the #'s in to a calculator yourself:

http://www.bitcoinx.com/profit/

I show that you'd be getting around 0.03 bitcoins per 24h (three-hundreths of a bitcoin).  Pretty far cry from 2.000 bitcoins per 24hr.

He said he was getting 1 coin every 2 days, not 2 coins every 1 day.

That doesn't make his point irrelevant. 0.03 BTC/day isn't anything near 0.5 BTC/day.

It's only viable at this point if you're mining at a profit from cheap or free electricity, are mining as an investment, or have some other motive. ASICs have cropped up (at long last), and the network hashrate is rising pretty quickly.

Or you could get back to the good old times mining Terracoins. That's what I'm probably going to do.
