Hi there,

I'm looking to put my development skills to use while I'm currently out of work. So I'd like to know, what bitcoin services would be mighty useful that aren't there, currently?

We have things like BitRefill, for mobile top-ups, but is there anything else in the same kind of category that the community would be grateful to have there?
I'm already working on something, but I'm waiting on a third party right now, so.

Thanks!

Easy buy of bitcoins via credit cards without verification. That's what's the best to do I think. A lot of people from the EU are complaining about that.

It's interesting you should say that. I actually developed the back-end of that a while ago. Did my research, and came to the comclusion that while it is entirely possible, it would only be possible to do it say... 10GBP at a time. To minimise the associated risk.

Plus, I'd need investment capital, which is something I'd have to look into.

I'm not looking to profit, so I'm trying to avoid ending up TOO out of pocket personally.

Terrible idea. Why would you let people buy non-reversible bitcoins with a credit card which they can dispute the charge with to essentially get free bitcoins?

Go on ebay and try to sell amazon gift cards. You'll probably get a buyer pretty quick, but if you actually send the card...they will use it and then file a "never received item" dispute with ebay and you'll lose your money, because the system favors the buyer not the merchant. This is no different than what would happen if it were possible to buy bitcoins with credit cards.

it cant be that easy to reverse charges though, surely you have to have some sort of evidence the service you paid for wasnt provided?

In the UK at least, it is annoyingly easy to reverse a charge, from a merchant point of view.

With sufficient evidence that the transaction was authorised by the card holder though, charge backs CAN be mitigated, just maybe not 100% of the time.

Even at fairly high refund rates though, it's perfectly possible to sustain such a service, at a premium.

It's very easy. 95% of the time the the credit card processor will side with the buyer, especially for something intangible like bitcoins. All they have to do is call up the customer service number and claim that they did not authorize the charge and that's it. The only real way to protect yourself from scammers like this is by requiring a physical signature, which you won't have if you are doing internet transactions.

These services that allow you to ding your cell phone in exchange for bitcoin through sms never stick around and seem to be able to extract large fees. If you get something based around that for North Americans, think Uk has this available to them.

Or some kind of service for transactions under $5.
You tap into that you print money.

It has to do with the card vendors security protocols when it comes to identity theft running higher in EU, especially the UK.

A lot of businesses have been getting into Bitcoin and it has definitely been showing recently, especially with Valve also looking to get in on the action.

I think we are bound to see a lot of companies beginning to accept Bitcoin over the next few years, all we need to do is keep on doing whatever the hell it is that we are doing, because it has been working.

that is only one of the problems associated with this method. the other biggest problem would be trouble with fraud and stolen credit cards. that is why all these services have a window of time where it takes to verify you and make sure it is real.

Weak hands have been complaining about missing out ever since bitcoin was $1 and never buy the dip.
Whales are those who keep buying the dip.

Which is a good thing, because otherwise we would be experiencing a bunch of people coming out of the woodworks claiming they've been having their stuff stolen and then we'd be getting a lot tighter legislation a lot faster, as opposed to the fairly light restrictions we have right now.

With the sheer amount of social networks that already exists, I don't see room for a Crypto-Social network. Not even if it's based on a platform like Ethereum which provides computation+storage. Centralized services such as Facebook/Twitter will only switch if it's convenient for them, and the openness of such a platform directly antagonizes them.

I'll tell you an amazing service that used to exist but stopped.

Snapcard.io is currently a wallet website, but used to be something completely different.
It has a bookmarklet which you could click on any webpage and then choose an item on the page that you wanted to buy.

It would take you to a snapcard.io payment page where you would pay the price of the item + a small fee. They would have a wide array of payment methods available and would hence buy the item for you and accept your BTC.

It was just amazing. It would work for anything, steam wallet, amazon, ebay, etc. And would allow you to spend Bitcoin on pretty much any online site without them accepting Bitcoin.

If you can somehow create a service like this again, I'll be your first customer Wink

No longer active on bitcointalk, however, you can still reach me via PMs if needed.

I would like to use an app that aggregates all the services and businesses accepting Bitcoin in a close proximity near me in a given city in a given country based on my GPS location. I don't know if such an app exists with these kind of features yet but the closest comparison I could give you is like Google Maps or Here Maps but only for Bitcoin. These maps should include even the smallest of businesses like a local coffee shop or a grocery store near me accepting Bitcoin, Bitcoin ATM near my location etc. I think a Bitcoin app that can be a one stop shop for everything Bitcoin would be amazing and I would be using it all the time. I don't know how hard it would be to develop this but I would certainly love it so much and I am sure it would turn out to be the most used Bitcoin app ever  Wink

You could tackle the seemingly impossible task to create a decentralized exchange service, but this will require much more brainstorming and it will offer a lot of challenges. We have seen too many centralized exchanges being hacked or making bad decisions forced down on them by the regulators.

If you can manage to do this successfully, it would be the second most important technological breakthrough, since the Byzantine Geneneral's problem was solved by Satoshi. ^smile^

Service that is missing , is to use Bitcoin to buy from ebay as for amazon you can buy using purse.io , but why can't we have something like purse.io for buying from ebay. That would be a huge hit against Paypal and a great advertisement for Bitcoin. But I know the people running Ebay and Paypal will never accept this and will do whatever in their power to never let this happen unfortunately.
