Commentary on Poland's new government, which offers a diabolical mix of stupidity, National-Socialist tendencies and Catholic fanaticism.

http://www.polskatimes.pl/magazyny/magazyn-polski/a/ryszard-bugaj-nie-podoba-mi-sie-co-pis-robi-z-trybunalem-do-opozycji-jednak-sie-nie-przylacze,9915241/

The juicy quote is on page 4.

"The opposition is not clearly interested in any talk of compromise. They're behaving as if an intensification of the dispute works in their favour.
The tribunal issue means there's a very serious, rising threat of a destabilization of the legal order in the country. The opposition should not neglect these threats to the state. A possible compromise cannot ignore the legal legacy, but without coming to a political understanding, an impasse is inevitable. We're already mired neck-deep in this. Another moment and we will have only two choices left: either PiS will arrange everything however they want, or they will have to be executed by firing squad. There won't be any third option."

Something like that. It might've even been the high 30s, but with several small Left parties not making the 5% cut (~8% for coalitions), they made a slight majority.

With 20-20 hindsight, the voting system and the public's attitude toward it seem naive. If the turnout is less than 50% (as was the case), by default it implies that a majority of the population don't care enough about democracy to even bother participating in a small voting ritual. Thus, in that case, the country's president should probably take over and declare the election null and void. But unless he's the dictatorial type, his best bet would be to promptly announce a new round of elections. I like Spain's system far better.

...

Stupid, nazis, fanatics... that's some scary shit. How do you sleep at night?
What was the alternative again and why did they lose badly?

Your above comment and the 'juicy quote' don't quite match, the quote criticises the opposition. The execution part is laughable.

Looks like "Maidan 2.0 - Polish edition" isn't getting the desired traction.

If the turnout is less than 50% (as was the case)...

Turnaround was 50.92%.

Touched a nerve, did I?

PO, Nowoczesna... look it up yourself, dumbass.

and why did they lose badly?

"badly" is a relative term. But you're correct, 51% vs. 49% is indeed a disaster with the aforementioned party in charge of the legislative branch of government.

Like I already mentioned, people voted for small parties that didn't cross the 5% threshold. Those lost votes got redistributed among the parties that did get in.

The main opposition party, PO, was politically attacked by a recording tape scandal, which PiS exploited before the election. Their internal leadership also failed to recover after Donald Tusk went into the EU parliament.

A washed-up b-grade rocker entered the presidential race, and then he made his own party. Some 9% of voters lapped up the kool-aid.

The catholic church used its own resources, and government subsidies, to help fund and propagandise PiS' election campaign. They also have a millionaire businessman (Rydzyk) who calls himself a priest but spends his time running a media company, which was extremely biased in favour of PiS.

If you had a better understanding of the situation in Poland, you wouldn't be so cocky.

You're an idiot. Nobody wants a repeat of Ukraine. Except maybe the Russians. They seem to be very supportive of how things are going in Poland.

My bad. 1% difference. That wouldn't phase an egomaniac like MP Kaczynski.

Anything else I can help you with?
