Wow that's good news. I heard that the Bank of England launched their own bitcoin.
Which means the British are closely watching the developments in bitcoin.

Launched their own bitcoin? What does that even mean?!! If they made an altcoin it isn't making their own Bitcoin!

It sounds like they want to have an online ledger to keep track of research grants, I doubt they will be using bitcoin for that though.
Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

The United Kingdom is the leading country in Finance Technologies startups. The legal framework there allows innovation to prosper. That why Bitcoin and Ethereum ecosystems will grow rapidly there.
My friend from UK wanted to buy bitcoin from some UK based exchange, to no avail. It is crazy hard with their banking regulations to buy bitcoins fast and fees on their exchanges are horrendous.
From my experience I found it is easier to buy bitcoins in Russia that in UK.

correct. the UK is a fucking disgrace compared to almost anywhere else for buying and using bitcoin. just goes to show the power of banking when they refuse to play.

Sure, but there's that pesky premium which may be fine or a beast.

It's been a while since I've bought any so it's probably improved but when you look at the EU with places like Bitonic and bitcoin.de plus all the American options plus the fact that we still don't have an exchange that doesn't take multiple days to get in and out of it's a weedy effort so far.

The article says 'bitcoin or some permutation of blockchain technology' to pay out and monitor grants.
Even if it does get implemented, I think it will be a blockchain project and not involve bitcoin.

Read the article and I know they say the government is becoming more excepting of bitcoin but most of the article is talking about blockchain technology and how they can use it. The only real reference to bitcoin is that it was used once in bitcoin atm by Osbourne.
So I am curious how they plan to use blockchain technology for grants if they are not using bitcoin, but I guess that is where we get the nudge towards bitcoin usage.

After reading a article about Russia cracking down and Britain being more open I am starting to wonder if there is more to this than meets the eye. Like bitcoin may be the way to take down some of these Countries that oppose or reflect a different image than the majority.

yeah, it is usually like this. all these big news especially the news that is being spread on these not-so-famous-bitcoin-news-sites is about something else with a topic saying another thing. most of the government and financial groups these days are only talking about blockchain technology (making an altcoin) not bitcoin itself.

Weak hands have been complaining about missing out ever since bitcoin was $1 and never buy the dip.
Whales are those who keep buying the dip.

I think it's obvious from this article that it's the blockchain technology that interests them and not necessarily Bitcoin itself. It's a little like a human being seeing a horse for the first time. Sure it's cute and harmless but what truly interests the human is the fact that he/she can ride on it's back.

They'd have to be goddamn certifiable to pay out in bitcoin. I don't think parliament is going to be very impressed when their itchy sphincter research grinds to a halt because a chinese teenager dumped to buy their first sexbot.

I very much doubt that Barclays will allow direct competition to it's institution as they probably have say who can give out grants that is funded by the government as we all know the banks fund their government.

Long live the Queen, this is one of the best decision of 2016. Finally we will be able to show Bitcoin can be used for good purposes and will shed cover on drugs claims. This shall open Bitcoin to a whole new market and it's effects shall be huge. We shall reap benefits from this move. I just hope it happens fast. This would be a incredible move. Let's hope for Best
