That's big if it's true.

I don't get why would he prove it to BBC, Economist and GQ but not publicly, it doesn't end any speculation.
Quote
"I really do not want to be the public face of anything," he said, expressing regret that he had been forced to reveal his identity.

Forced by who/what?

"he's got the private keys. "

he is refusing to sign a tx using block 9 keys and merely discovered a hash referencing Jean-Paul Sartre on block 9 which anyone could have made.

"He also says he can’t send any bitcoin because they are now owned by a trust. And he rejected the idea of having The Economist send him another text to sign as proof that he actually possesses these private keys, rather than simply being the first to publish a proof which was generated at some point in the past by somebody else. Either people believe him now—or they don’t, he says. “I’m not going to keep jumping through hoops.”"

It is trivial for him to publish a message and than sign a new tx without risk and without moving them out of a trust.

He is clearly a fraud.

The man behind the handle Satoshi Nakamoto has died years ago and since then somebody is desperately trying to make the people believe he is still alive and to take over his identity. That's why Craig doesn't show any legit proof. Btw. Mr. Wright, I don't believe in Jon Matonis, but I do believe in the mathematics  of GPG and Bitcoin. If you were in fact Satoshi Nakamoto, you would agree and act accordingly. The fact that you don't, is proof enough that you're lying. Fuck you.

Bitcoin is not a bubble, it's the pin!

Gavin, is either lacking skepticism due to a cognitive bias (Craig Steven Wright just happens to be a big blocker*) or is willing to use this fraud to further his agenda. Either way, I lost even more respect for Gavin with this blog post.

* "Mr Wright says that if he could reinvent bitcoin, he would program in a steady increase of the block size. He also intends to publish mathematical proof that there is no trade-off between the mass adoption of the cryptocurrency and its remaining decentralised. Simulations on his supercomputer show, he says, that blocks could theoretically be as large as 340 gigabytes in a specialised bitcoin network shared by banks and large companies." http://www.economist.com/news/briefings/21698061-craig-steven-wright-claims-be-satoshi-nakamoto-bitcoin

I agree, there is no proof he really owns the private keys to the coins of Satoshi unless he signs a message from these wallets. This dude is only horny for media attention, and it seems to work for him.

Once he signs a message "Craig is Satoshi" with the pubkey from Satoshi, I start to be convinced. But the death of his buddy coincidences with the disappearance of Satoshi, so I have the impression he's a piggy-backer....

Not always. If the story is true, that would mean that he holds around 1 mil of bitcoins, many considered those coins are 'lost'. If general public believes he's indeed SN, then he could crash the price just by saying (at any point) that he's considering selling all of his holding. Even if he never says that, the potential of him doing so have a very strong, negative impact on the price.

Edit: BTC down to $440, ETH on the rise.

I think for bitcoin is best that Satoshi remains mystery, and i thing all those talks and speculations about his identity now when we are approaching halving can only make damage. People know that he controls lots of coins..and what if..?

Stop opening the thread about this scammer. This is not Satoshi. Do your research before you open additional, useless threads.

Craig Wright's signature is worthless

Yes technology confirmed he is Craig Wright an australian, Reuters and BBC confirmed, what will go on now with the price of bitcoin, hopefully not a decrease in the near term.
Bullshit. Nothing was confirmed.

Cognitive bias it is. There are even people that are part of his "cult" stating that if Gavin said it, that is proof enough.  Roll Eyes

I agree with this as well that part of the attraction of Bitcoin was its mysterious inventor. Hard to say if this is just another attempt by Craig to cash in on some publicity, but you would think if he really wanted to put this to rest he would sign a public message with early block keys as suggested.

there is no way anymore to prove at 100% that you are satoshi, even signing will not do it, because the wallet could have been stolen

therefore i'm not buying it no matter what it happen, satoshi's identity will never be revealed to the public

I'm highly skeptical as well, there are several falsely media announced and self-announced Satoshi Nakamoto's out there, unless he is going to 'jump through the hoops' no one, particularly me will believe him unless we see him sign stuff like the genesis block.
