I think he is not forcing us to do that. And I guess even if he doesn't ask that, his customer would do that voluntary.

Some suggestions to OP...
1. You can edit title as "Taken"
2. You can add end date of current occupant. So that people plan up for their slot on next availability.
3. Maintain a history of users availed.
