Bitcoin Armory with TOR

Trying to use Bitcoin Armory with TOR.  The Bitcoin program connects and downloads the blockchain but
when I start Armory it stays offline and says that Bitcoin isn't running.  When I run Bitcoin using a commercial
VPN Armory works OK.  This issue was briefly discussed on the Armory forum but I don't think a definite solution was proposed--maybe it was and I'm just too much of a newby to understand it--I've never written a single line of code.  Anyway if anyone has gotten Armory to work with TOR, I'd appreciate an explanation "for Dummies"

Did you, or has anyone else, managed to find a solution to this issue?

I am using Bitcoin-Qt (using Qt version 4.8.3) and Armory (0.87.2)

Okay. The reason ist the following:

When you set bitcoind to use a proxy on port 9050 (usually a TOR proxy) it denies entering connections per default.

You have to edit the bitcoin.conf file and add

listen=1

Armory can then connect again. Unfortunatly you open up to any other connection as well, which could compromise your privacy. If you are behind a NAT and have not opened port 8333 to the public, only connections from the local lan are possible though.
