Well, if it goes wrong, you can always take confidence in knowing PayPal hates Bitcoin and you'll get your money back even if he didn't do anything wrong. I still advise using escrow, just as good practice.
Escrow is useless for selling BTC through Paypal. Even if the transaction is done through escrow, the buyer can still reverse the charges afterward.

But yes, you're right. Trading BTC for PP is an invitation for disaster either way and I wouldn't advise using it period.
