How does this scam work? At 1st glance the rules are rather tricky...

Scammers buy premined/instamined coins to purchase "power" to upvote articles about their projects and downvote the articles of their competitors.

Right?

The coins that are powered up are used as stake, that stake is used to upvote content or earn money in various ways.

How can you earn money in varios ways, if the projects's only source of income is selling coins and tokens? It's a classic Ponzi scheme.

And what's the point of wasting money on this project, if you can buy up-votes (likes, retweets, whatever) on more popular platforms (twitter, facebook, reddit etc) ?

Dude it's not project paying. It's basically people are voting stuff they like and since everyone considers there is a value, so those authors get rewarded. Just like how Bitcoin is treated valueable because everyone associates a value with it. Yes, Steemit is not the best crypto platform out there, but saying it a ponzi is totally dumb. Better research on things than just spit out venom. And as for why not promote on FB and all, then it's mainly because those platforms don't allow certain content and can censor any content anytime. Plus Steemit is more targeted for crypto users and is totally ad free.

If there are no ads, how is the income being generated, except by selling worthless coins/tokens?

So, current investments are reimbursed by future investments, right?

Ponzi scheme at its finest!

At the same time the "investors" are scammers, too. They are promoting their "projects", 'cause they are banned or may be banned on other platforms. So, there is a constant influx of money as long as other scams are being profitable.

I think Steemit lost some of his old popularity. The inclusion of bots in the system has also shifted to a different dimension.

Use bots for our own profit but it need some investment first.

BTW, anyone here having more than 500 SP in account? if you have that much SP then I think you can use steemit for your benefit.

steem is a coin that I find that has use and transactions are really fast and can be done 1/1000 of Steem, that will make a 1 cent transaction if steem value reaches $10.  I think steem is undervalued but what makes SBD more valuable than Steem?

Umm, the price did reach to around $8 in January. You could have sold then. But yes, the current low price should recover after the HF20 and launch of SMT. All of us Steemians have big expectations from HF20!

I use mine on steemit.  Power up and you can upvote to get curation rewards.  It takes 13 weeks to fully power down, so this is a good way to hodl. I use steem auto to make my own curation trail but you can easily follow ones other people have made.  There's a guide here  https://steemit.com/guide/@scrooger/steemauto-full-guide-and-how-to-register

If that's too much hassle, you can delegate your steem power but I've never tried that.

It's at $1.05 now but I'm not selling.  All cryptos are high risk but at least I can see what's happening with steem, unlike some that have a higher valuation and don't seem to be doing anything interesting.

This has now been fixed. They've put through five patches, LOL, but it seems to be working smoothly again.

Yes , it is fixed now  but definitely Steemit is no longer a platform for a struggling blogger who does not want to invest. With all the comment restriction in place (if you are not investing in it.) you will not be able to build any relationship.
In short, I think a blockchain powered blogging platform is a big failure now.
