Hello. This is my first post here, I hope it meets the standards of the forum.

The situation goes like this: I have a loan to pay, that has to be exclusively in bitcoins. I used LocalBitcoins in order to buy an amount of 0.3191 BTC with a seller, and it worked. However, when I was about to transfer the money to my account, something went arwy and the address had changed COMPLETELY the address to receive (malware, perhaps? Although I think it's unlikely), and it now it has went to someone else's wallet. I am desperate, angry, frustrated, and helpless. I know transactions are irreversible, but I just wanted to ask for help, somehow.

Useful links/information:

Can anyone help me out? I contacted the seller and the website, and no way to revert things. I don't have a way to contact the wallet owner, so I guess I lost the money, yes?

As --Encrypted-- said, nothing can be done at this time. However, what you should do is scan your computer with antivirus software to check that there is no malware on your computer. There are viruses known to hijack the clipboard and replace an address with an attacker's, so you should scan your computer to make sure you don't have that.

You can also try to figure out who owns that address and see if you can get that person to return you your money.

Understandable. Yeah, I lost it  Cry

I will surely scan for these buggers, it's VERY likely this was a malware attack, with copy to clipboard kind of thing. Amazing how they can do that easily.

Well, I'll see a way I can pay this loan. Thanks for all the help.

It's just... disappointing to have this happen, you know?

How can I figure the person who owns the address to give me my money back? And what can I use as proof if he refuses to do so?

Unfortunately, with these kinds of malware attacks, and te nature of Bitcoin itself, nothing can be done. Take it as a lesson and use proper anti-malware software on your machine.

Signatures? How about learning a skill... I don't care either way. Everybody has to make a living somehow.

Do you own a pc or a mac?
Did the theft occur on what os  windows 7 windows 8 windows 10   or a mac os?

windows is tricky to defend against malware.

mac is a bit easier.

basically the money is lost.  and hopefully you can kill off the malware if it is a windows.

There was a thread about this happening where some kind of malware if on your computer can change the address of the sender you are trying to transfer too.
It is a pretty recent thing.

You can send a dust amount transaction with a public message to contact the owner of the address to which you mistakenly sent the amount, i don't think you'll get your money back though. (public message is available only on blockchain.info)

You can't do anything about this.

Once its done, it is done. That's the thing about bitcoin from the start. You need to doublecheck everything you do while you mess with crypto.

Don't send transactions using a computer that is infected or corrupted using a virus, or other malfunction. Bitcoin transactions can also be send using other devices like smart phones, but also using other special devices like pocket wallets that are designed to protect from exactly this kind of problem.

You can't do anything now, it seems you lost that money. Refund services only offer bank. Bitcoin is illegal and P2P, so you can't get your lost money.

Open a new topic if you have a different problem next time.

I would assume that you haven't synchronize it yet. Transactions would only appear if the client is synchronized to the block which the transaction is included in. You need to wait till the bottom right shows a tick. To check if the address has the coins, go to blockr.io and search for your receiving address.

I think we already resolved it on your other thread.I told you just wait for the wallet to get in sync with the sever. It basically download's the entire blockchain and takes time.Give it a day.Assuming you're not a techie ,the process of importing your private keys into electrum will be quite difficult if you can't wait. You can always google though. This is the link if you can understand what's happening https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Transferring_coins_from_Bitcoin-Qt_to_Electrum
