Breadwallet clone??

I love this breadwallet app developed by Aaron Voisine.

In the App Store I found another app called Coins by Genitrust. Is this just as safe to use as breadwallet? It seems to be a picture-perfect replica of the breadwallet app.

I would be really careful about using apps like that. It might be perfectly fine wallet, but the fact it is clone of existing wallet is puzzling for me.
App store is not free from malicious  app, from time to time there are cases of malicious code found in apps.
And I would rather pick secure and reputable wallet with less options than innovative one.

Deleting this from my iPod now. I hope I didn't give it any permissions to read or access other apps by downloading it. Makes me a bit nervous.

Lol. You should be nervous. If you gave the app permisions, it could have already done so much to your iPod.

Must be nice to live in a place where bitcoins is highly acknowledged. Unlike me, who lives in a normal-density area and of the hundreds of people living here, I'm pretty sure not a single one of them know about bitcoins, let alone use them.

Why has it been in the App Store since Aug 2015? Is the developer aware of this?

The customer ratings give a clear indication of how popular the two wallets are. The clone wallet has no customer ratings, indicating nobody's noticed it yet. How can any breadwallet developer be aware of it if nobody else has noticed it? Perhaps we should contact the breadwallet devs and let them know.

Breadwallet has 166 customer ratings, which shows it's the real deal.

Installing other apps won't give them access to you wallet, the OS enforces code signatures, so only apps signed by the same author can access keychain data created by that author's apps.

Breadwallet is open source and anyone is free to fork the code and make their own wallet, which is what Robert Genito of wall-of-coins did here. He integrated it with their exchange service. I know him personally and have no reason to think there's anything untoward here. He asked permission to use the code even though it's open source and he didn't have to.

Bread wallet is the best IMHO due to it adhering to the very principles that are Bitcoin, individual control of keys, independence, security and decentralization, while making it as easy to use as possible.

Thank you voisine for your excellent work.  


With that in mind, it would be nice if the font was slightly larger for my old eyes, but that may be an IOS issue in general, and color coding "send/sent" with red and "receive" with green would add consistency with the ledger page.  TIFWIW, but regardless, Breadwallet is my favorite by far.

Is this not a risky route to follow? What if someone used this code to mimic or spoof your wallet and then insert malicious code to steal people's private keys? This will taint the original Breadwallet's

reputation, if this was done to people. In any case, If you can vouch for him and you trust his integrity enough to put your own reputation on the line, it is surely legit. It takes a lot of time to build

trust, it takes one incident to destroy it.

I haven't reviewed his code changes so I can't vouch for it. I can only say that I've known him personally to be a nice guy.

As far as open source, the original Bitcoin code itself is open source, and runs on systems that dont enforce code signatures, so anyone can make a bad version that overwrites the original. This can't be done with mobile apps like breadwallet. If someone uses our name and logo to confuse people, we can report it for removal from app stores.
