4 types of Gambling (UPDATED 5/11/2016)

I have a theory that there are basically 4 types of gambling:

1) All Chance (highest risk): These are games that are basically all left to chance and no skill is involved such as dice or roulette.

2) Mostly Chance but some Skill: These include most card games (except poker*) where there is some skill involved but you are at the mercy of the cards dealt.

3) Mostly Skill but some Chance: These are games or sports where it is mostly the player's skill that controls the outcome such as golf or bowling where each player plays against the game with the opponent facing the same game independently and under the same conditions.  In these games you can't directly affect the opponent's performance.  Could also be true for a video games where you play against the computer and not head to head against an opponent.

4) All Skill (lowest risk): These are games where you play head to head against an opponent and can affect the opponent's performance and you both are playing under the same conditions.  These are games like chess and pool or sports like basketball.

*Poker is an exception because even though you can't control the cards being dealt, the dynamics of head to head betting (bluffing, reading the opponents tendencies, etc.) can help a skilled player win regardless of the cards dealt. Poker could be in the 4th category for very skilled players.

Sports betting where you are just an observer could vary based on whether you do research on the players, horses, etc.

This is just a theory on how risky betting is in some games or sports.  What do you think?

good point mate, and for me the number 4 would be the good one to play with, playing head to head, research and make sure that you are betting for the team that have very good chances of winnings, it is a good explanation over there mate. you observed it well and always remember gambling still a gambling.

I would think that people that are worried about the cheating aspect would flock to husngs but do not think enough people now how to play them in a postive manner.
Like how they do not adjust their opening range as the poker table gets smaller.
So the small risk is only applies if they know how to play. May seem obvious but go to any site and you will see people not understanding the poker dynamics.

among all the type mentioned, I prefer the type that into four, namely Lowest risk. it fits very well with my personality that is always looking for profits with very little risk. it can make us produce the maximum profit with very minimal risk

Yes these four points are very truthful in gambling. And these information will work out in gambling. Every one is trying to say this only even me also but we never said in detail like this we just said normally. I don't know how many of them understood that but this can easily understand every one. I think you can be rich if you can gamble strategically , enough guts , and bankroll.
For example : professional poker player named Dan Bilzeran is the luckiest guy

As far as My experience, gamble with less house edge may be easier to get profit !

You can't really bet on all skill, right? I mean, there has to be some kind of chance and luck involved in sports betting.

For example your opponent today who is usually the best player in the world suddenly just gets sick and can't play well. That's pure luck.

head to head game always been a favorite for me too, knowing what will be the edge of the to their opponents, I think number four would be the best one, I adore you mate for sharing your thought to us, it is correctly been observed, thank you for sharing.

Strongly disagree with poker included in "Mostly chance but some skill game" category: if have an edge on your opponents if you are most skilled then them, you may lose some hands because of bad luck; you may also lose some big pots because of variance, but in the long run you would take all the money they have in their pockets if they don't stop playing or at least don't gain some skill themselves.

If it was a game of mostly luck you should explain why there are some pokerpros constantly placing in good positions in richest prizepool tournaments, why there are some  high stakes pokerplayers earning millions dollars every year: are they the luckiest men/women in the world?


It's just my opinion but I would put poker in the third category: Mostly skill but some chance game

It doesn't matter if it's an online or real life casino.. You are always playing against the house and when it comes to casino they will not provide you with the "Lowest risk - Skill" option.

Interesting list. I think some might argue that poker involves relatively more skill than luck. But that probably depends on the player and their personal skill level, I guess.

Sure, luck might have a significant part, but not everyone is as you say, "at the mercy of the cards dealt."

nice categorizing. i agree with it but with a minor change i think anything that can be categorized as gambling is not safe so you can never say it has lower risk because even in a skill based game that you are playing against an opponent they can get lucky and you lose that game.

for all the type i think the best one is number 4 i like to gamble using only skills but the problem is the winning is so low and there is always somebody that is more skilled than you.

I believe even if you are highly skilled luck plays a big role in all the 4 types of gambling mentioned. The risk of loss might vary between the methods.
