I'm looking for a way to make a CD or DVD self-destruct after its first use or after a set period of time. Or, at least, make a PDF file contained in it self-destruct.

I knew there were DVD by Flexplay which were able to self-destruct, but this company is no longer on the market: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flexplay

Do you know any other way to achieve such a goal? The self-destruction can be both physical (like the Flexplay method was) and internal.

IMHO CDs and DVDs have no future. Whatever you are up to, it's probably much easier to implement using cheap usb thumbdrives.

I totally agre with you about that. Anyway, I need a way to make a PDF self-destruct after its reading or after a set amount of time. This PDF can be on a CD, a DVD or eventually an USB stick, so make these devices self-destruct could be an alternative too.

You could wrap the pdf in an exe file on an usb stick. When you click on the exe, it will unpack the pdf into memory, overwrite the exe on the usb stick and finally show the pdf from memory to the user.

Sounds like a technology for James Bond movie, i like to know if there is something like that as we can easily use as well. but what are you up to? lol Extort someone and wanted the evidence to be destroyed before your victim can make a copy?

There is nothing so sci-fi in it. Flexplay did a similar thing more than 10 years ago and the DVD did not explode, it simply turned dark so that it was unasable. It was a great thing but unfortunately the company is out of market nowadays.
Here is a video on YouTube about Flexplay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLYSWC6_HU8

Anyway, I'm also looking for a way to make a PDF unasable after some time or after a single reading. Something to make the file corrupt itself or something crazy like this  Smiley

Maybe I didn't explain in a proper way. I am just looking for a method to make a PDF file (or the Cd or DVD which contains it) unasable after a set period of time.
