This is question a lot of people are probably asking and should be. Avalon hasn't even shipped out their second batch yet ( I don't think so) but considering how BFL is and how long it takes them to do anything and how many bad decisions they have made, who do you think will come out with a unit first?
Avalon's 3rd batch BFL's first batch
Would a 60G/H a few months down the road even be able to break even?
** Sorry for this post. After doing some more reading and spending more time on here I have much more updated information on what's going on. I'm really loving the power consumption of the BFL rigs, but if they never come to life it is all speculation really.

I personally think most of these ASICs for bitcoin are scams.. But if it was true I think Avalon's 3rd batch would beat the BFL. BFL seems like it would be the most scammy. Hiding stuff sketchy people, sketchy works..

This is question a lot of people are probably asking and should be. Funny, you're the only person who I've ever heard ask such a thing. Would a 60G/H a few months down the road even be able to break even?
You obviously haven't run any numbers thro a profitability calc, but the answer is a resounding yes. A year or two down the road, the network will eventually rise to a point where even ASICs are only profitable by a slim margin, and then your profitability will be determined by the price of bitcoins, your cost of power, and the amount of power your draw. Because BFL is set to use far less power than Avalon units, they will remain profitable for much longer.

I think it depends currently on your location. If outside China it might be best to go with BFL.....but if in then Avalon it is.

IF BFL can meet their power consumption target (one of the many things they've failed to do before) then this will be the silver lining for anyone who has ordered a BFL ASIC and is now biting their fingernails and pulling out their hair, watching as the network power rises, along with the exchange value of bitcoins, and all they can do is wait. Long after the Avalon and ASICminer's first gen boards have been decommissioned, BFL's will still be churning. But thats a big IF.

It was all speculation to start with anyway, speculation that they were wrong on with their last product line, and considering how quiet they've become since they started testing their chips, I get the feeling their power consumption is way beyond advertised spec.

BFL can backtrack on donations, Depends on who said it, They could just pass it off as a joke. I think avalon will ship 3rd batch and even 4th batch before BFL will ship anything, The more time goes on, the worse a feeling I get for all of us in this boat, There are many "for's" and "against's" in this, All of wich has been coverd here to death.
I'm just fed up af waiting............

I'd bet 1000 Bitcoins that Avalon would win that contest. If I had them.
