Just a stupid question...so where does Mt. Gox get all of the bitcoins from?

Mt. Gox is an exchange. The bitcoins come from people who want to sell, and flow through Mt. Gox to people who want to buy.

Right, understand that you're not buying coins FROM Mt. Gox (or TradeHill.com), they are the marketplace that connects sellers to buyers.
