Failing to refer to transgenders as "ze" or "hir" a violation of human rights

Businesses in New York City face fines under a new law that makes it a violation of someone’s human rights not to use their preferred “gender pronoun”.

According to the New York City Commission on Human Rights, employees, landlords and businesses who refuse to refer to transgender people as terms such as “ze” and “hir” will be in violation of the New York City Human Rights Law.

Violations include, “Intentional or repeated refusal to use an individual’s preferred name, pronoun or title. For example, repeatedly calling a transgender woman “him” or “Mr.” after she has made clear which pronouns and title she uses.”

“Covered entities may avoid violations of the NYCHRL by creating a policy of asking everyone what their preferred gender pronoun is so that no individual is singled out for such questions and by updating their systems to allow all individuals to self-identify their names and genders. They should not limit the options for identification to male and female only,” states the “legal enforcement guidance” on gender identity.

The notion of a business asking every customer who walks through the door if they want to be identified as “he,” “she,” “ze,” “hir,” or any other of the 71 Facebook “gender options” is of course completely absurd.

“So people can basically force us — on pain of massive legal liability — to say what they want us to say, whether or not we want to endorse the political message associated with that term, and whether or not we think it’s a lie,” writes UCLA Law Prof. Eugene Volokh.

Volokh also makes the point that some people identify as “gender fluid” and so their preferred pronoun could change on a daily basis. Some people also identify as “otherkin”. Are businesses also going to be fined for failing to refer to customers as certain species of animal?

The guideline also states that if a business discovers that its employees or patrons are “refus[ing] to use a transgender employee’s preferred” pronoun, they should be ejected or fired to comply with the law.

The draconian enforcement of gender pronouns is yet another way in which fringe identity politics movements (just 0.03 percent of Americans consider themselves to be transgender) are being hijacked to create onerous burdens on free speech.

Last year we reported on an opinion piece by Columbia University’s John McWhorter, carried by CNN, which called for people who flout rules of gender pronoun political correctness to be publicly shamed in order to compel “society-wide acceptance” of the term “ze” in favor of “he” or “she”.

We are now at the point where people are being increasingly treated like thought criminals who deserve state oppression and punishment for simply believing that there are only two biological genders.

Woman Finds Man In Ladies Dressing Room In Ross Store, Employee Says It’s Ok, ‘He’s Identifying As Woman Today’

Lisa Stickles was shopping at her local Ross store when she saw a man who was dressed like a man, complete with a five o’clock shadow, in the women’s dressing room. When she informed the store manager she was told company policy allowed customers to use whichever dressing room they identified with, CBS DFW reports.

Stickles was informed by the manager the man “was representing himself as a woman today,” and the store could do nothing about it.

“What about me? Or my feelings?” she asked. “(The manager) told me that if I felt uncomfortable in the dressing room with him there … I’d have to wait until he’s finished.”

Slower digital sales growth at Target Corp. weighed on the retailer’s first-quarter results, the latest sign that retailers’ ability to grab online shoppers is increasingly determining their fortunes.

Chief Executive Brian Cornell cited “an increasingly volatile consumer environment” and said Target’s view of second-quarter results “has been tempered by the recent slowdown in consumer trends.”

Shares of the company tumbled 7.3% to $68.24 in premarket trading.

Target warned that it would post adjusted earnings for the second quarter far below Wall Street’s expectations, on comparable-store sales that will be flat to down 2%. A decline in same-store sales would be the first for Target in nearly two years.

Despite weakness in the first half of the year, Target said it still sees its full-year earnings forecast as “achievable.”

I recall posting about this discussion a well back and disagreeing with people that thought this group was overriding every ones personal rights. Guess it took a bit longer to get to Canada but we now have a new story every day on this topic.

Read that one story where a lady was accused of being a transgender in a Walmart bathroom as well,so it seems to go all over the map in craziness.

That New York story is messed up because they can say you are wrong either way you play it.

Yep. What about people whose native language is not English. Shouldn't the law be ready to provide the right pronouns for every language on planet Earth?

Let's say you are a trans, BUT you are transitioning every hour... How could you wear a skirt now, when in the next hour you'll want to not wear it anymore, while going to the female restroom in your male body?

I believe we need a third restroom....

There was a popular podcast that played this story about a guy that would get in the shower a dude and come out a female and by the time she was dressed would have to change again due to being a dude again. His wife left him 2 years into this issue, but it reminded me of the people they used to bring on those talk shows with 30 personalities that they turned out to be a totally fake issue.
I think today is transgender day or something here in Canada, something got passed.Let me go look.

Edit:

Looks like its a global thingy:

i do not understand why cant we use ''her'' for a  transgender woman or ''his'' a transgender man? there is no need to create new pronouns to adreess lgbt people .. they just change their gender . they dont create a new gender for sure.

Well it looks like the world is starting to feel some of the side effects of relying on an open ended definition of itself. An open ended or imperfect definition means that you don't have to commit yourself 100% to being a specific way/entity. It allows for scalability, evolution and growth from experience, something which does not exist in a closed-ended or perfect definition. For example animals can be viewed as having a closed-ended definition of themselves since they don't strive to be more than what they are. They do evolve etc but it is something that happens separate from their awareness and beyond their control.
The downside of having an open ended definition is that everything within the definition enjoys the same perks. Unwanted traits grow at the same rate as desired ones. A suitable analogy would be the human body, a child growing up can't decide to have his hands stay small and not grow along with the rest of his body.
And no it is not possible to eradicate unwanted traits as feasible as theory would suggest it is.

This is not explaining why we are throwing rules out the window to protect kids from pedophiles or over zealous parents who push their child into confused state to gain attention.
I imagine if you have a disagreement with a trans you would be in the wrong due to people not wanting to look like they have a prejudice.
In Canada we had rights for everyone that protect everyone. Now trans are getting rights that are set to protect them but actually seclude them farther.

The percentage is less than 0.5% and the group splits into offshoots farther that make this a absurd issue to get so much attention.

Women Must Overcome ‘Discomfort’ Of Seeing Male Genitalia In Locker Rooms…

A leading North Carolina newspaper issued an editorial last week telling girls to attempt “overcoming discomfort” at the sight of “male genitalia,” should transgender bathroom laws be enacted.

In a defense of President Obama’s order compelling schools to allow access to restrooms on the basis of gender identity, the Charlotte Observer editorial board compared the discomfort of school-aged girls seeing male genitalia in locker rooms to the discomfort of white people being around black people in post-segregation America.

“This is what the Obama administration nudged the rest of the country toward Friday,” the editorial said. “Yes, the thought of male genitalia in girls’ locker rooms — and vice versa — might be distressing to some. But the battle for equality has always been in part about overcoming discomfort — with blacks sharing facilities, with gays sharing marriage — then realizing it was not nearly so awful as some people imagined.”

While admitting that exposure to male genitalia is a possible outcome of transgender bathroom laws, the editorial said the notion that such laws constitute a threat to the privacy and safety of women and children is a “political fiction” pushed by Republicans.

“Those safety issues are political fiction — non-transgender men wouldn’t have been allowed in women’s bathrooms under the Charlotte ordinance that HB 2 killed, and the 200 or so cities with similar ordinances have had no incidents involving bathroom predators,” the editorial said.

President Obama issued a legally nonbinding order on Friday compelling schools to allow bathroom access on the basis of gender identity, or risk losing federal education funding. Several states have promised to oppose the decree.

The U.S. Department of Justice has sued the state of North Carolina over a law regulating public restroom access on the basis of biological sex.

Guard Charged With Assault After Confronting Transgender Woman Using Women's Restroom, Police Say

D.C. police have charged a security guard at a Giant grocery store with simple assault after a transgender woman said the guard forced her out of the women’s restroom.

Ebony Belcher, 32, said she went to the Giant in northeast D.C. with a friend to pick up a delivery from the Western Union.

While at the Giant, she asked a store employee to point her to the restroom and passed a female security officer standing in the hallway.

The officer came into the restroom and told her to get out, according to Belcher. […]

Belcher said the guard told her, “You guys cannot keep coming in here and using our women’s restroom. They did not pass the law yet.”

She said she called police and reported the incident after she left the store. According to a police report, officers arrested the guard at the Giant after the confrontation.

College Fires Ex-Delta Force Hero General After Complaints From LGBT Activists About Transgender Bathroom Comment

Jerry Boykin is the kind of man you’d want teaching your sons – a good and decent man, an honorable man – a Christian man.

For the past nine years the retired lieutenant general has taught leadership and ethics at Hampden-Sydney College, a highly regarded, all-male school based in Virginia. By many accounts – he is beloved and deeply respected by students.

But Gen. Boykin will not be returning to the classroom this fall. That’s because he tells me he’s been fired.

The man who was one of the original members of Delta Force and once commanded all of the U.S. Army’s Green Berets – the man who served his nation with honor and distinction for more than 36 years – was ousted because of political correctness.

In March, Gen. Boykin delivered a speech to conservatives and he referenced the national uproar over transgendered people using the ladies room.

He cracked a joke: “The first man who goes into the restroom with my daughter will not have to worry about surgery.”
