There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

my simple understanding is, 'distributed denial of service', which means a flood of stupid internet request to the same address such as silk road, so that people who ACTUALLY want to use it, cant. its like picture taking a number in line at the bakery. If 7000 screaming shitheads kept running through the doors and taking numbers in front of you, you would never get helped . . get it?  Its probly 9000 times more complicated, but in essence im pretty sure thats the jist of it

I'd say whoever runs the largest solo mining operation has a bit to gain from pools going down, but I may be completely wrong about that.

I drink it up!
