Found this service though a customer. I was wondering if any one in the community had run across it before and what was your experience?

This guy clams to be a user named riX2000, who i noticed entered into the famous bet between Mathew Wright and the community. He linked to riX2000's otc rating and claimed he was the guy who had put up the coins in the bet.

He was looking pretty straight at first but when I stated that I would want to start with small transactions and build slowly he claimed that he could only get so many charge backs from Paypal and would only sell for $500 or more.

Here is a link to his page and to the email profile he provided also the claimed otc account.

Just want to send out a warning to the community to try and help people avoid getting screwed over. Let me know if it is a confirmed scammer.

Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

So your entire argument rests on this other person not being interested in small transactions which somehow proves they're a scammer? That's not much to go by. Do you know how to check if indeed you are talking to the owner of an OTC rating even?

My Credentials  | THE BTC Stock Exchange | I have my very own anthology! | Use bitcointa.lk, it's like this one but better.

No I do not know how to check. Here is the email I sent this morning it has a list of the problems I have with it all.

Okay what I am seeing is that there is no protection for me what so ever. It seems to be a poor service in general to me with very high fees. i understand your reservations, I believe the best way for us to gain trust is to do small transactions over a period of time. To be honest it looks like a scam to me there are to many holes in your story, I think I am just going to pass on doing business with you.

The problems I have---
You have 0 feedback as a seller
You require a large up front purchase
I have no way of knowing if you are the person you claim (riX2000)
you are not in the pictures of you mining rig
your gmail account is new
If you are the user you claim to be you are known to gamble (15000 at once)
You wont use escrow for erroneous reasons.
Willing to pay 11% fees doesn't make sense
I also do not like that the word Predator is in your email address.
I posted under bitcoin forums that i believed your service to be a scam and for other users to avoid you.
If you would like to defend your service you can reply to my post under scam accusations. It is entitled "suspected scam! dont get screwed!"

Virwox is currently the most reliable way to transfer from paypal to btc.  There are a lot of fees involved, and time, too.  I think the fees come out to be like 11%, and they only sell whole btc (not .05 btc, for example).

Needless to say, it's complicated, expensive, and not really satisfying.  Yet, they do a lot of business in BTC, mostly to newbies trying to get some btc by using a credit card or paypal.

-- also that user bought large number of coins recently, which doesnt make sense. He claims to mine 250 a month and is meeting to buy 100's of coins?

If you're concerned he's not riX, have him sign a message with his OTC key. That'll be proof enough. The rest is not valid arguments.

The site and G+ accounts seem shady and a job of another noob scammer. Anyone falling for that is best to be parted with his bitcoins early...

Uh, where on earth did he claim to be riX? riX's account seems dormant, and a common tactic by scammers is to impersonate MIA members.

He sent a link to riX2000's otc rating to a message to one of my customers on facebook. I asked if he was him on the phone and he said yes.
I can post our emails if anyone is interested?

Never believe any claims like this unless the message was signed using the key to that account. For example, I never issue bitcoin addresses to another party without signing it with my GPG key to prevent someone else hijacking my account and using it maliciously.

Mathew Harrison
12:37 PM (11 minutes ago)

to me
i already read it on bitcoin forums, and ive been on bitcoin otc this morning and a few guys and myself were talking about you. You are being difficult. If you dont want to do business that just say so I have other people interested. I dont have time for games and hassles thanks.
Either deal or no. and BTW me and a few others on otc already flaged your scam report. that is very unnessascary. I am not a scammer thanks so much. You shouldnt be so quick to judge. Im trying to help you adn would like a long term relationship f your willing.

Mathew Harrison
12:39 PM (10 minutes ago)

to me
I am sending you 0.05 to show you I am going to send btc, just only a very tiny amount to i dont get taken for a ride I hpe you understand. You can pay once we settle onw hat is going on. You can pay in full the 600 was it? and I will send you your btc:)

so do you want me to send you the 0.05 to show you ? or no because I dont ahve all day for running around, you understand

Mathew Harrison
12:40 PM (9 minutes ago)

to me
Im not trying to be harsh its just business. So do we agree on 600 usd? to your btc address. Once recieved I will send them and send you the blockchain address so you can see  they were sent

Mathew Harrison
12:41 PM (7 minutes ago)

to me
I dont appriciate being called a scammer. I am far from it. If you havent sen my rig, thats no scam. thats an investment . So lets prosceed as partners, alright are we ready? if so is it 600 or is it more now? thanks

Amber North <amber35@gmail.com>
12:42 PM (6 minutes ago)

to Mathew
respond to it on bitcoin forums. If you are who you say you would have responded.

Mathew Harrison
12:46 PM (2 minutes ago)

to me
Why would I respond to a scam thread, I find that very rude. what evidence are you going on? I do many tranactions dails on otc and off otc. I will not reply to a scammer thread. Me and the boys over at otc are wondering what is ging on with you. I called you and had a conversation, like guy I dont have the time as I said. I usuially get an email we talk and i call teh person, we decide money , person sends and i send the btc and blockchain adress, deal done. thats how it should be.

So either take it or leave it. I now understand why you were booded off otc. you may have an ebay store, thats great and all buy im an otc member. SO either lets trade and do business togather and get past this small bump or you fid and differant ruputable seller. I would say otc is the best place
Regards

Thanks, so he's apologizing for taking people's money but he's still making them pay? Is there a link available to the original thread where this all played out?

Well, just wanted to say that I'm riX2000 at #bitcoin-otc, and there's been a few cases that I know of when people have been scammed.
Some idiot is claiming to be me, sending out links to my otc ratings, and people are buying it without confirming that the email address is correct, not checking that the guy is authed on IRC, not asking for PGP or bitcoin signature etc.

I'm going to add a link in my otc-orders to a text telling people to be more careful and verify the identity of the anyone claiming to be me. It might help someone, but careless or stupid people will always exist.

I will never fail to send a PGP or bitcoin signed message, and my email is written in the comments of all my #otc orders.

Sorry, I can't help you with your lost password.
