why an avalon ASIC has a greater hash speed than other ATI GPUs also GPUs are more expensive than avalon asic, from a technecal point of view what's the main aspect in a gpu that affects the hashing speed?

because all avalon can do is computing hashes, you can do with GPU more things, thats why computing hashes will be slower - when comparing devices with the same number of transistors and frekvency they run on  Tongue

With a GPU, you write instructions in software and the hardware reads and follows the instructions. With an ASIC, the instructions are built into the hardware, so the ASIC skips the reading and simply does the computations. This allows it to be much faster.

Because an ASIC is specific hardware, designed to mine, nothing else.

An analogy for you:

An ASIC is a tuned piece of hardware, designed to do one job very well. A bit like a formula 1 car.

A GPU mining PC is a PC which can do video very well, as well as Mining.  Like a Ferrari Sports car!

However, you can use a Ferrari for shopping if you must.  You could never go shopping with a F1 car! Wink
