How was it possible to generate so many words that aren't just random characters? Also strange that it recieved that 1.6 BTC from 35 different other addresses... what is this then?

They can generate the addy, that is easy. They do not have the private key, so the money in there is lost forever.

It probably is a throw away address.  You can search for any address you want and send bitcoins to it (which is what others have done), but people do not have the private key for that address, so those bitcoins are theoretically lost.

These addresses are known as Vanity addresses.

No, it is not a vanity address.  A vanity address has a private key and can be used to receive and send Bitcoins.  That is a totally bogus address with no private key.  All Bitcoins sent to that address will be lost forever.  There are a lot of them.  People have written a lot of stuff in the Blockchain using this method.

This is not a vanity address. It just has the right checksum at the end of the address.

 Bitcoin addresses are the pubkeyhash (not pubkey) plus version and checksum information, encoded in base 58.
  Bitcoin address = version + RIPEMD-160(SHA-256( Public Key )) + checksum
