That was not a web wallet, it is a screen shot of the native UI that Monero developed in 2014 (can be downloaded and compiled and it does work but back end functions are stubbed out). Work to integrate it with the rest of the code was put on hold for a while to focus on other priorities and is ongoing now.

I speculate we see a Monero GUI Beta before the end of the summer. 
 
I have no real reason to believe this will happen, the same as JFK had no iron-clad reason to believe we could land on the moon before the end of the 60's.  But nevertheless, I have faith that it will happen, and I hypothesize it comes before September 1st.

I don't get it, there is CryptoNote's official implementation of GUI wallet (based on BTC Qt impl.) already back from 2015 (https://forum.cryptonote.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=609) - also Bytecoin's GUI wallet should be open sourced by now (didn't check that, but they said earlier in 2015, that they open source it in the future)...

A bitcoin Qt clone GUI didn't fit the project objectives. The screen shot above is from a brand new wallet implementation that was developed in 2014, then put on hold in 2015, then picked back up in 2016.

Anyway there have been 5 or more other Monero GUI wallets, including Qt based ones. They all worked at one time but nobody wanted to maintain them.
