Is it a business reason? Or perhaps the complexity of bitcoin accounting creating potential issues?

What do you think?

Could have several reasons. The negative image of Bitcoin for instance.Or maybe they are waiting for a scaling solution.
Another possibility is they just could create their own coin or accept one the planned bankcoins.Sooner or later we will know in which direction amazon will go.

When the Amazon accepts the bitcoin, there will be lots of transactions. 1 MB block size is not enough. This will cause bad user experience.

Interesting question. I bought a lot of things from Amazon. I always use giftcards purchased using Bitcoin to shop at Amazon. Last year, in a thread similar to this, I said that Amazon.com should probably be accepting Bitcoin in the coming years. Well, I do really hope that what I said will be true. Paypal, Credit card or whatsoever payment method is just too bad for online merchants - at least from my perspective.
I don't know why you said it is bad for them as these payment methods will make things convenient and fast ,you don't need to drive or go to a place to just pay for what you want to buy in Amazon . The fee is acceptable as it will give you a comfortable way to buy things online and it is acceptable by the government for too long.

And for the topic I think Amazon will just wait for BTC to be regulated or somehow stable which the BTC is not for the meantime. The price is not predictable at the moment it would sometimes spike or somehow goes down unlike fiat.

I think its impossible that amazon will accept bitcoin as payment because amazon is just like a market the owners of the product is not amazon so if they use bitcoin as payment they can not reverse the payment once the product shift to your country and if your receive product fault or not your order you can not reverse the payment..

We don't assume Amazon is still resisting to bitcoin for using it become their payment, Not only a business reason maybe it will have a more risk to accept bitcoin become their cash for now because there is no guarantee of legality for bitcoin.

Is it a business reason? Or perhaps the complexity of bitcoin accounting creating potential issues?

What do you think?

Amazon isn't resisting anything. There simply isn't enough consumer demand to justify integrating bitcoin into their payment platform.

Consumers aren't going to take time exchanging fiat to bitcoin so they can then buy an online item they could have already bought with fiat. That's never going to happen. As a community, I think we're too fixated on putting the cart in front of the horse.

The best way to get merchants to accept bitcoin, is to make the consumer side of the equation make sense. This can only be done by educating the public about the importance of payroll/wage integration. Get paid in bitcoin, spend bitcoin. That's the best route to merchant adoption.

Amazon will not accept bitcoin because they want viable and traceable payment while bitcoin can be easily mixed and you can not know the address holder. also they have their gift card system so why would they think about accepting btc ?

Getting paid (wages) in bitcoins is a strange idea. I could be getting paid less due to violatiblity. I am not sure i would do it.

But getting paid in bitcoins is simply getting paid in another currently, imagine yourself getting expat pay in other countries.

But i won't accept bitcoin as my currency for wage.

I think the first reason why amazon is hesitating to use bitcoin for payments is the block size limit, blocks are almost full and it needs more space if amazon will implement it because the number of bitcoin transaction will be increased too much. Another issue that i think is the instability of the price, long waiting time of confirmations etc.

Paypal recently has applied for patent for crypto payment. I wonder if this put pressure on Amazon.

Amazon have a protection policy whereby the refund money for items not as described by 3rd party sellers
the 3rd party sellers then have to prove that they have offered the goods or service.
I think this will be harder to implement with btc

Because they do not like such payment and they are also thinking that the bitcoin is still just a investment and a currency that is not popular.
Soon or later this will change and they will accept it.

When the daily volatility of the bitcoin price is similar to that of the US dollars and Euro, I think Amazon will accept it.

I think that BTC is too anonymous for amazon which is why they are still resisting the use of BTC.

Yeah. Perhaps they still want to use other payment methods just because they offer a bit more control. They want control over everything, and gain every bit of detail of their customers, I guess.

But eventually, they will be forced to get into the BTC business.

This is not really a good excuse not to support Bitcoin transactions. Amazon always had the option of refunding payments to your giftcard balance and not necessarily always to the source of payment. In fact, refunding to your giftcard balance is instantaneous but to your credit card could take days.

Also with 3rd party sellers I would assume that they will receive the payment in fiat regardless of whether they buyer uses BTC or other forms of payment.

Credit Card payments don't take long and I was told by Amazon that it takes just 1 day but cash payments take 2 weeks. Bitcoin payments also can be instant but they aren't finding users who want to have such a payment method checking its stability and confirmation time.

It has probably been up by their internal teams on a few occasions, sadly Bitcoin gets a lot of negative press.
