Can someone tell me or point me in the right direction to explain how I can become a part of getting paid for processing bitcoin transactions?

It's my understanding that some transactions include a reward for expediting confirmations of a bitcoin transaction. I see this, for example, on blockchain.info where you can set something like 0.01 bitcoins as a reward. How do I help confirm transactions and get a piece of the reward?

You run a bitcoin miner.  Unless you are willing to purchase specialized equipment (ASIC), and/or have access to really cheap electricity, it may not be a profitable venture.  You may quickly find yourself spending more on the electricity necessary to run the miner that you make in bitcoin.

On the other hand, if the exchange rate keeps going up at the rate it has been for the past month, it might be worth the effort.

Read up on mining and make the decision for yourself.
