Chineses are using Bitcoin to move funds out of China, probably this is main reason. We will see heavy buying in yuan and then dump in usd.
But right now i see chinese are accumulating till halving to pump price to new ATH level may be before halving. Its better to hold as chinese are not dumping in USD currently.

Speculating is a widespread hobby in China. We can see this quite well based on the past years. First, the Chinese invested heavily in real estate. When the market slowed, the speculators turned to the Chinese stock market. As it slowly collapsed last year, most speculators got into the resource sector and caused rising prices. It is only a matter of time before the Chinese speculating in a big way with Bitcoin and crypto currencies. What do you expect in this case, when suddenly hundreds of thousands more people are speculating with crypto coins with high leverage?

Speculators from China are already on btc market.
Why? Because more than 90% of coins every day are exchange for china fiat (yuan) and not in euro/dollar /etc
So they are inside this job and maybe they are the first that speculate "positively" as a lobby for btc and related environment.
Take care a btc collapse will hit more asset from chinese speculator (with high volumes) than a normal user!

No one knows for certain if the volume of the Chinese exchanges is due to real buying or just due to (virtual) leveraged trading. So it might be Chinese speculators involved, but the questions is: How many?

On the other hand it seems plausible that the Chinese people use Bitcoin as an investment vehicle, because they have only few possibilities of acquiring "safe" assets. Given that the Chinese population is estimated at > 1 Billion and with a concentration of mining companies in the country it could be real demand. Unfortunately as an outsider it is impossible to know what really happens in China...

That is true. Chinese are investing into Bitcoin already. But compared to the sums which were invested for real estates, stock market shares or natural resources certificates and futures speculation, the sum invested into Bitcoin is small. You can see this on the "low" daily volume of Bitcoin trading of only 70-100 million USD.

i thought Chinese were already inside bitcoin! they have always been investing with a lot of money in crypto currencies. do you remember last year and what they did with litecoin around LTC halving?
and do i even need to mention the mining farms in China?

If there was a REAL Chinese pump, and the previous one didn't have all that many people compared to their population, then we'll see more moves coming from their government. They could close the markets down with a click of their fingers and they probably would. Look what they were doing to their stock markets to cool them off when they were going feverish.

I kinda hope China doesn't latch onto it in a truly major way or we'll all be screwed rapidly.

Prices quickly go up due to the sudden surge, then go down due to them leaving. But I hope they invest in BTC for the long term, that way we see some investment trickle down to other cryptos too, hopefully.

Not sure because isn't bitcoin banned in china? Even though the government still uses it to their advantage? It's kind of a sketchy topic because the government in china is a very strong believer in bitcoins and they have bought many many bitcoins.

good luck to all of you and i dont think anything major will happen when they enter the market.

The bitcoin is going to rise i guess.
Same as the banks enter it,we can already see the outcome of it : bitcoin went to moon, highest price was 750$ just because
banks were in and other big fishes.
Im wondering what going to happen in 2017

Why? Anyone has the right to bitcoins. Do we need to discriminate? Just look at the positive side when everyone is acceeing bitcoins... the price will surely soar high and with this, every one who is into bitcoins can benefit from it...

I thought this also.its not like the chinese arwnt alreading speculating on the price already and probably holding some till the halving and possibly beyond. Also as you say im sure china has some of the largest farms in the world and i dont think the miners are stupid. If the expect a rise in price then they will hild those bitcoins until then.

~~

that's the thing about bitcoin and anonymity of investors you can't find them. the only thing possible to do is that you can speculate about it by looking at the trade volumes that are being published from the exchanges that are known to work only in China. but that would only be speculations and nothing for sure.

A lot <notice, I did not say All> of the Chinese people are also big gamblers and they like to invest in high risk investments with possible high profits. This makes Bitcoin attractive to them to, under situations where there are high volatility. I should think that these speculators have enough fiat capital to create volatility if they wanted to, so it's all a high risk gamble for them. On the other hand, they are one of the most disciplined and hard working people I know, so combine those two and you can see why they will soon rule the world economy. ^hmmmmmm^

If the Chinese are really wanting to get their yuan out of the country, then they will start buying in Bitcoin and this will basically raise the price because the Chinese will create a bigger demand for coins. However when they decide to get rid of Bitcoin and get back into fiat they will effectively crash the Bitcoin market by creating a bigger supply than the actual demand requires. Such extreme conditions are not good for the Bitcoin economy in my opinion and we must be careful because we can easily be caught in the bubble and lose a lot of money when it finally bursts.

Is this a worst case scenario?  I hope thinks like these will never happen.  Let them invest hoping to make the market more profitable to all.

I agree with you as when ever they have enter to any market they have fluctuated it very high, like in silver they started the market investing and it went 10 times more and when they started to leave it, it crashed like hell in 2 or 3 days they dont care about market or investors. so bitcoin have to be safe with them. because if they do the same like have done to other market then we can see bitcoin going above $2k or $100 any thing can happen.

Back to topic, how do you know that BTC is very popular in China? I would like to see the source,or speak with the guy you got the info from.

Chinese have always been inside bitcoin from the early days and they have been investing in it for a longer time than any others. and the interesting thing is that this investment of their has only increased over time and they have been investing in bitcoin and also in other crypto currencies so much and that is one of the reasons why this market is so interesting .

What do you think Chinese exchanges are, OP?

Well, there's all the exchange volume. It may or may not be genuine, but China has usually led all the market moves.
Let me turn the question around tho, "how do we know Bitcoin is popular in the West?"

The problem we might have here is that chinese speculators have really big funds, they are just a big whales.
We can see a very big btc movements, but let's be true, most of them are already in but i think we can see more of them entering.
