Blockchain.info Questions from a noob - Help!

Hey guys

Noob here. I just got the basics about bitcoin and have some questions that are very important to me.


1. Is using blockchain.info to make payments truly anonymous or can everything be tracked back to you.

2. Is the blockchain.info account locked to ip or country that was used to register the first time. If I use a VPN for example, will it flag and lock me out for using different ips.

3. Can one use VPN and Tor together to access blockchain.info - I read on reddit that blockchain.info wouldnt allow Tor.

Bitcoin is never truly anonymous. If you buy BTC from someone/somewhere that needs ID, they know the address you buy the bitcoins to are owned by you. Blockchain.info makes no difference on that. If you don't taint all your addresses though, not everything can be tracked back to you. I don't think using a VPN will lock you out, but maybe trigger email 2FA but that is it. Not sure about the Tor thing, so it might be good to backup your private keys just in case.

I will not be buying bitcoins. Somebody owes me money and will be paying via BTC and I will be using those bitcoins to pay for web hosting etc. I will be using one or two layers of anonymous VPN to login. VPN + Tor would be better though and there was a discussion on reddit that said blockchain.info banned Tor usage - https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/3lzfp9/blockchaininfo_doesnt_work_via_tor_at_all_not/

I will not be buying bitcoins. Somebody owes me money and will be paying via BTC and I will be using those bitcoins to pay for web hosting etc. I will be using one or two layers of anonymous VPN to login.

Then you should be safe. Your address will probably never become a target for people anyway, so you shouldn't worry about that unless the Bitcoin payment comes directly from hacked sites. Using blockchain.info and VPNs are good for staying anonymous, since only the VPN knows your IP but if you download Bitcoin core, the node that you publish the transaction to will know your IP.

I suggest you to download onw bitcoin wallet on your laptop if you have fast internet otherwise have hardware wallet or electrum wallet which doesn't have any types of band and no persona information needed. I mostly use both of blockchain and electrum but i don't care about being anonymous like you.

If you are really worried about anonymity, using a third party service is rarely a good idea. 

As far as Tor goes, you can try logging in and seeing if it works.  You can definitely pull up their home page via Tor.

One thing to check is to make sure you don't store a large number of coins on a third party wallet and that you have backups of the private keys.

If you haven't written your name anywhere online it can't be tracked to you. However your IP can be traced when u are going to buy webhosting and a domain name. Many people get found this way, but u can cover urself with whois guard and some other tools.

Using blockchain.info wallet to make anonymous transaction is not true. I would suggest you to use always bitcoin mixers (like bitmixer or cryptomixer) but you always have to pay a fee to mix your bitcoin. Also try to use every bitcoin address once per transaction, in general nobody can say that bitcoin 100% anonymous.

Remember that using TOR browser is a really really bad idea if you want to access their clear net (internet) website , blockchain.info , and by using TOR  a lot of traffic can flow to your computer therefore making hacking your username and password a breeze. TOR and blockchain.info, is a really bad idea, I hope you have heard how many gmail accounts have been hacked when stupid people opened them in TOR.
By the way TOR is still the best anonymous tool we have so far so don't believe people telling you its not that anonymous anymore.

Just do these steps and FBI will never find you if you are privacy concerned.
1. Always update your PC with latest updates, for using TOR ,Linux is recommended (Windows and TOR ,really bad combination)
2. Always update TOR and Firefox to the latest.
3. Always go to Privacy and Security Settings and set it to the highest
4. Don't torrent over TOR, do not open .doc or .PDF docs while online in TOR
5. When using TOR don't open any other browser (risk of getting your IP leaked)
6. Always check if JAVA is disabled (but should be if you SECURITY SETTINGS to the highest)
7. Never use any personal info in any website you use in TOR, like username in other clearnet sites, or email etc.

If you follow these steps, even FBI cannot do anything to you, let alone hackers or whatever.

that IP that you add to your account to filter out other IPs and block them is only good if you have a "static IP" that doesn't change ever, but if you are one of those with internet that give you a dynamic IP which changes every time i don't think it is  a good idea to use this feature.

I've quickly browsed https://blockchain.info/Resources/TermsofServicePolicy.pdf but couldn't find the word VPN nor TOR in their TOS.
However, i do believe that when a company actually runs a hidden service and publishes their onion-url on their tld (https://blockchain.info/wallet/anonymity) i don't think they'll be able to say they don't allow TOR.
