Can one get good-enough mixing by sending coins to one's own account at SR and then withdrawing them after a few days ?

Thoughts ?

OK, that would be another implementation, but what about the methodology itself ?

I don't have any personal experience with SR, but I've heard that they mix coins pretty well.  I guess you'd have to try it and look at the taint on blockchain.info.

OK, I'm happy to report that round-tripping 0.01 BTC through instawallet into a fresh address resulted in zero taint with the original address.

Problem solved.

Strike the previous message.  No taint only for small amounts, for large amounts taint remains, instawallet is no good for this.

Just use Silk Road. It shouldn't be a crime to have an account on SR and use them for that purpose, I guess. Wink

And for the guys who say SR coins will come tainted, well, most of the coins sent to SR will most likey come from Bitinstant, and by consequence from the exchanges they work with.
I laughed so hard when I saw the dealers there recommending bitinstant right on their product pages. That must put them(bitinstant) in an awkward position.

1. Will there be any fees when round-tripping coins through SR ?
2. What's the maximum safe amount to round-trip in one batch ?

Thanx

1- I don't think there are any fees going in or out of SR, but I may be mistaken.
2- Well, I would say SR is probably the only anonymously owned website in which you can still have a little of trust. Take note I said a little trust, as in BTC land trusting someone you know nothing about, or even trusting someone you know everything about, can get you in troubles Grin

No, there are no deposit/withdrawal fees. Only fees if you make a purchase through the websites escrow.

More bad news: Round tripping through SR does not remove taint, just bounces off your personal SR address.

If anybody actually does know some alternative to 0.5% blockchain.info then please share it here ...

Thanks for taking the time to test this. How long did you leave the coins in?

Two hours or so, it wouldn't matter, the coins just came back from the address SR held in trust for you, there was no evidence of any shared pool, perhaps there is one in their Escrow system tho, but that involves huge fees.

Cheers ...

Did some experiments with blockchain.info's mixer, results:

0.5 BTC came out in about 5 minutes w/ zero confirmations as promised
25 BTC  hasn't come out  4 hours later yet.

I guess there is not enough volume there at least at this late hour of Sunday night Pacific

Cheers...
