As of Instagram, it is a community oriented image sharing website, what would be the point of adding bitcoin there?
hmmmm. A Changetip plug-in for Instagram could work.... users could solicit donations from ardent followers by promising to upload photographs depicting something specific.

I think there are a myriad of similar Bitcoin use cases for the other social media sites. If these companies would still be on the forefront of innovation, they could create an entirely new revenue stream by incorporating Bitcoin. But I don't think this will happen, because the bigger the company the higher its risk aversion. Bitcoin is still far from mainstream, so it might befuddle significant parts of an existing user base followed by potentially lower revenues from the existing sources of content monetization.

Therefore I don't think that big socialmedia companies will adopt Bitcoin anytime soon. It's much more likely that new social media startups will incorporate Bitcoin and some might become very successful because of it. Adoption by the established giants will happen after a successful demonstration of the Bitcoin use case by a newcomer company.

Well I think that whatsapp, fb, snapchat, instagram, and twitter aren't adding btc as payment to them because many users don't know it yet. Because many users don't know about bitcoin yet, they will not profit big for accepting bitcoin as payment to them.  Grin

Exactly when years pass gradually social networking service providers start accepting bitcoin. Right now much of the world people were unaware of the digital currency. But if they accept earlier bitcoin popularity increases enormously.

I am also noticing that these big companies has not added it yet, I don't think that now there is any thing in bitcoin which will stop them to use bitcoin as now bitcoin is a living currency in all the corners of the world, and if they added bitcoin to their sites then it will be more famous in the world and then everyone will like it for their purchases etc.

Because those are all corporate scumbags that sell user information for profit (or influence). The last thing they want is to empower their users (or neuter their government crony friends), hence they're not interested in Bitcoin.

Yup, all the social media Giant. Indeed the user to utilize the advantages of the company. And they also see the condition of the users, so still very minimal that the company accept bitcoin, because if we see only about 10% of social media users using Bitcoin.

Yeah that's a probable reason behind their decision not to add Bitcoin to their apps and services but they could do the same what Steam did and exclude countries where Bitcoin has had problems with the law like Russia for example. In my opinion these companies simply don't think Bitcoin users represent a big enough portion of their accumulated user traffic and there is no need to implement Bitcoin transactions in their systems for now but if Bitcoin continues to get a wider adoption they might revisit their company policy  Wink

I definitely agree there is a big need for a digital currency to be integrated into those apps, however right now I don't think it will be bitcoin that will get integrated. They will probably go with integrating something like google money. Also I think snapchat had integrated some form of currency about an year back, not sure how successful it was.

FB, Snapchat, and Instagram understand that the demand is simply too small. In order for demand to exist, the consumer must have motivation to use bitcoin. Currently, there is no motivation for a consumer to exchange fiat to bitcoin so he can buy something he could have already bought with fiat.

That's absolutely full of contradictions. One sentence the demand is too small, the next it doesn't exist. Yet exchanges have at least some credible trade volume, no? I suspect that constitutes demand.

You state no motive exists for buying Bitcoin, so presumably everyone who has bought Bitcoin up to now did so for no reason at all? Is that the reason you personally bought or hold BTC, nothing?

"Carlton Banks, no, exchanges have FAKE volumes(99% of them). This is the problem and it creates the illusion of a BIG market. In reality is that BTC is a very, very small one.

you are an old user here and I am sure you are not dumb too Smiley. how can you say that "yet exchanges have at least some credible trade volume," when their orderbooks are fake? Smiley

a "new e-currency user" may that but you?! come on!  Roll Eyes

BitCoin, although popular, is nowhere near mainstream enough for big-name social media websites to adopt it. There simply isn't the user base that demands it in a sufficient quantity. Bitcoin prices also fluctuate relatively quickly, and its a risk that these companies don't want to take. Finally, bitcoin is often associated (however untrue) with black market/shady dealings that that these sites don't want to be associated with for PR reasons. Maybe in a couple of years we may see its adoption, but as of now there isn't really an incentive for them to implement it

These guys do not take Bitcoin serious enough to push them to support it yet... but it will come as soon as the Bitcoin adoption rate grow fast enough for them to take notice. At this stage Bitcoin is

seen as a small community and a emerging technology. Something that should have caught their attention, would be that Bitcoin have been the best performing "currency" for the last couple of years.

I think a lot of them are still waiting for their governments to issue regulations and laws regarding the use of Bitcoin and it would be premature to accept it, when the governments are still busy

regulating it.  Roll Eyes

I disagree. Far more likely..

because they do take bitcoin seriously that they have not yet integrated it.
Today bitcoin could not cope with the scale of any "integration" from these companies.

They will employ some intelligent people. I think they have worked out this obvious conclusion..

its all about the processing fee's to get their FIAT.
ill post this as it shows even walmart wants to drop Visa. and i explained why, so it saves repeating

http://www.wsj.com/articles/wal-mart-says-it-will-stop-accepting-visa-cards-in-canadian-stores-1465592845

This is the most surprising news I've read in a long time. I had always thought that with so many people hooked on cards in America, retailers had no choice but to accept them whatever the conditions, but I'm pleased to be wrong.

OK, this isn't BTC related, but it shows that if a payment system isn't satisfactory, companies are open to the idea of dumping it. So they may as well be open to new payment systems. Let's see, could there be another payment system, cheaper than Visa, and that people could use at Wal-Mart?

Visa was charging unacceptably high fee's before, so much so that it nearby became a point that the canadian government needed to intervene.
visa agreed to lower its rates to 1.5% average across canada, obviously high fees for smaller retailers
(this is old news. related but separate from the more recent walmart decision)

but large companies have the power to negotiate extra discounts on fee's. sometimes as low as 0.5%.
but it seems walmart is not happy with the offer it is getting with Visa

which kind of goes to show. if a monolith of a business such as walmart can stop using visa for an unacceptable deal of (somewhere between 0.5%-1.5%) then bitcoin payment services such as bitpay and coinbase need to cut their fee's below 1% to atleast have any chance of these monolith companies accepting bitcoin.

for instance walmart love fiat. but even so they are willing to stop accepting a method of accepting fiat due to the fee's, even when those fee's are lower then most other retailers anyway...

so even if they started to love bitcoin. the merchant fees(using payment processors) or the exchange rate fees(independently swapping) need to be low or nothing

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.
Please do your own research & respect what is written here as both opinion & information gleaned from experience. many people replying with insults but no on-topic content substance, automatically are 'facepalmed' and yawned at

Pretty much agree with the above comment, they are never going to give the general public access to a utility that gives them freedom of choice.

in my opinion, it's probably because those companies don't get the simplest way to explain what bitcoin is. you know, explaining what bitcoin is needs long time. sometimes, even we explain many times, people still don't understand. so I think that's the reason. and maybe if bitcoin is already understood by most of people, they would add bitcoin. IMO

I think it is very easy for these company to adopt bitcoin but the question is when. In addition, when a company gets too big, it is very hard to make a big direction-changing decision without going through meetings after meetings.

They may not be interested in bitcoin, because they can still rely on the old method and still profit until now. But suata day I think they will add a bitcoin, if cryptocurrency is more popular than right now. Thank you
