Help me build the perfect mining setup...

So here is the situation, I do not pay for power so the amount of power it uses doesn't matter at all to me. My budget is $1000. I would need the full setup powersupplys etc... What is the best mining option I have considering the amount of power the rig will use doesnt matter (maybe theres a cheaper option because it uses alot of power but outputs alot etc... )

Also the miner is going to be next to my bed, so if you could make the noise low that would be great.

it has 30 day return and is quiet at a decent price it will run

the avalon 6  3.3th fairly quiet  burns 1050 watts to do 3300gh

 or avalon 4.1     1 th very quiet  burns 700watts to do 1000gh

I would consider waiting till after having at this point if you have "free" power and need a quiet miner.   There could be possible deals as those of us who pay some will sell off old gear.  Could be a buyers market.  Miners like the Avalon 4.1 or S3 I have a feeling possible deals after having.  So maybe more bang for your buck it's speculation.

Now if BTC skyrockets (and it jumped right now) a good amount today.  Then I would be wrong but it would have to jump a pretty good amount.

Wait for halving. It won't be long now and then you can see the difficulty and redo the math in a Bitcoin Mining Calculator. With free electricity I bet you can snatch up a lot of s7's for cheap but they usually don't come with PSU's. You should have fast ROI

On your budget, you should consider a pair of those new S7-LN units, I think that comes in within your budget and a pair of them RIGHT NOW should manage about $8/day - though that is subject to major change when the halfing hits, and some probably significant changes due to difficulty changes.

 They include power supplies.

 You're NOT going to want to keep ANY miner in your bedroom, unless you are used to lots of airflow - any semi-current miner generate a LOT of heat, and it's gotta move the air to keep the chips cool enough to keep working.
 Avalons tend to be quieter than Antminers, but they also tend to cost more for the same amount of hashpower.


 Not sure if I trust Rosewill power supplies (Newegg house brand) since I have zero clue who actually MAKES the things.

You also want to be very careful with how much power you are pulling from the wall. Make sure your outlets can handle it without constantly tripping your breaker.

Rosewill makes plenty of gaming accessories and such, they're a trusted company. I use them for their PSU'S and whenever I need a cheap gaming headset or keyboard. Their quality is good, but not a good as, say, EVGA is. Their quality is in the upper middle range. I've tried one of their psus, and they work fine, as long as you don't get their lowest watt, lowest cost psus. Those tend to break VERY easily. Now, for a miner, aim for something around S7 strength. S5 isn't worth using anymore, the days where even people with free electricity using them are gone. They've gone down the drain with the S3 simply because their hashrate is too low and the sound they make is too big. Sure, you can replace the fan, but it's really not worth even buying the miner anymore. B19 S7s (little bit more efficient than the rest, comes out soon) and the S7-LN and any avalon you can get your hands on for less than 500$ is great. I HIGHLY suggest the B19 S7s because of their low prices at 290$(factor in shipping, it gets expensive), or choose a spondoolies-tech. Usually I don't recommend those, but they work well, and even though their time has passed, they are still workhorses and are very cheap. Keep your miner in the basement or an enclosed space far away from your bedroom with good cooling. The basement keeps cool, and keeps the A/C costs low. Don't put ANYTHING near your bedroom except a S3 or a stickminer, because essentially anything else is just a blasting of wind in your ears, and you won't sleep at night. I guarantee that

Rosewill very much depends on the model in my experience.  I got one of their bargin ones (pretty sure it was them) on a newegg deal but one of it's adapters for PCIe was a splitter that was not up to mining.  This was back during old GPU day's and it burned the crap on top of splitter was scary at the time.  Then again I got one of their Rosewill LIGHTNING-1300 and it was great quality no issues.  So really depends on the model your looking at they have from low to high quality I would say depending on model.

Others I ended using more were EVGA 1300, or Corsair RM1000's.   I did not have any issues with either.  And of course went to server PSU's eventually as it seemed I got more bang for my buck.

 A couple of my A2 units got X1250 transplants - the EVGA flat out didn't fit right, the Seasonics did fit fairly well, partly they're a bit shorter and partly the modular connections were better placed to clear the fan/control board.


 I wouldn't hesitate to trust Rosewill for cases and keyboards and the like (not mice - I HATE mice, nothing but Logitech Trackmen around here!) but their lack of transparency in who makes the PS makes me inclined to not trust them there.



 Oh for those that say "you'll never repurpose those ATX power supplies, just go server" - of my current 4x X1250 and pair of EVGA 1300s, ALL of the Seasonics are currently in machines (2 A2s, 2 computers) and one of the EVGA's is my current "bench setup" power supply (the other one is currently a spare but it might get hooked to a Batch 2 S9 when the price gets reasonable).

 Not knocking the server supplies - just prefer the flexability of "ack, dead PS, grab whatever I've got as a spare 'till I can get a real replacement!" for almost anything in house.



 I can see the S5 still being a good option in some cases for a FREE ELECTRIC miner, they've come down enough that you can match the hashrate of a S7 with enough S5s at less cost with a LITTLE digging - abet the power usage and heat are higher, the flexability of being able to use much smaller PS and the lower power draw per unit might be a major plus if they have to share circuits with something else.
 I wouldn't bother with anything older though.

Does EVGA really just rebrand half of their psus? That might be why all of the 400 watt ones that I buy from them all break... :/ Don't tell me their other stuff are rebrands too!
Thermaltake, Corsair and Cooler Master also provide some pretty good power supplies, they are just around the quality of EVGA. I used them in some of my pcs, and they've been running fine. Reliability isn't too big of an issue as long as you look at reviews of products beforehand. Don't buy from no-name brands, they will ruin your miners. I've had a problem with a cheap psu I got from ebay, and it ruined the power connector on my S3. Just melted. I could only use 1 power cord on it for the rest of the time I used it. Not a big problem, as I never overclock, but still, a bit depressing.

Unfortunetly yes they do rebrand A LOT. Typically whenever they release a new "line" of PSUs that typically means the batch is coming from a different factory. BUT the G2/P2/T2 are all SuperFlower Leadex rebrands, which are AMAZING PSUs.

I would just skip this route.

And just go with buying bitcoin now, and sell the bitcoin after the halving price blows over and be settled with a free coin if it ever drops back in normal $500 zone minimum.

And just go with buying bitcoin now, and sell the bitcoin after the halving price blows over and be settled with a free coin if it ever drops back in normal $500 zone minimum.

This is how I see it, but everyone has a different point of view.

Its FAR to hard to speculate what after having price will settle at.  We don't know 500, 700, etc.  It's simply guessing at this point.   If we remain where we are now I'm still not going to be sad though.

Your missing the part where he has "free" electricity so it is a heck of a advantage.  If I was him since looking at used gear I would wait till after having as likely he will get better deals on some models (again speculating depends on BTC price).  But waiting till having with "free" power and buying old gear seems to be the smart thing to do.
