I would suggest look for promotions, free giveaways, air drops, sig campaigns.  Just snoop around and you'll find ways to get free coins with potential to grow in value.  Look at the ANNs.  Just some general suggestions.

IF you want to collect newly release altcoin or announcement go to altcoin announcement and look for new announcement you can see some bounty like signature campaign avatar campaign facebook campaign and twitter campaign.. also you do bounty translation that you can received more altcoin or other bounty..

You can either;

Buy them, as previously mentioned, with Bitcoin.

Mine them, you need to invest in equipment - Asics for SHA256 or scrypt or i7 uprocessors for cpu POW (or botnets if you are of a nefarious disposition!).

Invest in ICO's, use faucets, do bounties etc, etc.

It's hard to make an income. Mining is especially hard, Staking gives low ROI (but then so does a savings account!)
Trading is a way of making an income but it's a precarious one - you really need to know what you are doing.
Bounties or offering a service for advertisers or BTC can bring in an income. More so popular websites who bring in fiat via adsense etc.

I am sure there are other ways as well!

You can collect profitable altcoin by just staying more time on the altcoin section ,some newly launch coin are giving give away and airdrop,but if you want the easy way you can buy these from exchange be sure to fully analyze if the crypto coin that you are getting into are not shit coin or scam coin..
