A Dutch woman who told Qatari police she had been drugged and raped in March has been in government detention ever since on unclear charges, a lawyer said on Saturday. The Dutch Embassy in Qatar confirmed the woman remained held ahead of a scheduled hearing Monday in Doha, which will host the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The case highlights the clash between Western law and the the Islamic-based legal codes governing Qatar and other Gulf nations as they try to draw in tourists expecting the protection of Western-style laws. The 22-year-old woman, on a vacation with a friend, went out for drinks at a hotel bar in the Qatari capital on March 15, lawyer Brian Lokollo said. While there, she believes someone "messed with her drink" and her memory became hazy, Lokollo said. She later awoke alone, her clothes torn and the victim of a rape, he said.

I don't know why these Western women want to work in Muslim nations such as Qatar. The women are always treated as sex objects there. If someone rapes you, then it is your fault. If the rapist is an Arab, then never expect justice from the authorities. I just hope that the Qataris will spare her from stoning to death (mandatory sentence for adultery in Qatar).

Salary might have played a part in deciding to work in Qatar. To tell the truth, even I would seriously consider a job option from a high risk country such as Somalia, Afghanistan or Iraq, if my potential employers are willing to give me a 400% or 500% hike.

Qatar is the richest country in the world (when per capita GDP is taken into account) and they have huge investments in the Netherlands. A number of the Dutch politicians are on their payroll. That means that the Dutch authorities are going to lock horns with their Qatari counterparts over this issue. She will be released from the prison after 7 or 8 months.

This woman really made mistake if she expected protection and fair legal process from authorities there.
Woman have no rights there.
 Western countries should really demand that Arab countries accept woman as equal to man (for God's sake, in Saudi Arabia woman can't even drive the car lol! ).

as good people, we are really sick and tired of these middle eastern countries' bad treatment over women. this dutch woman is a victim of a horrible rape act but she is found quilty because of being raped. Muslim world is going nuts day by day so western countries must do as soon as possible. i am so sorry for this poor woman.
