So i have this GPU i purchased used.

its been a warrior for me mining eth, super cool running 7970 at expected hashrate but i have noticed its pretty discolored on the backplane plate, like its been baked in the over at one time or another.. and the leads on the motherboard connections are quite gouged from repetitive insert/removal.

do you guys know of any silver paste or something i can retrace these leads with to regain some meat on the leads?

its just stopped working today after maintenance/shuffling cards around and i'm sure its just a matter of poor connection according to the behavior i have been noting lately.

You need a conductive pen like https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B88B9KI/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_1?pf_rd_p=1944687742&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00OZATJ3A&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=EGWSGCMKHH0PEBCSVJM0

Also why are you removing the board so many times?  Leave the poor thing alone and just let it do its thing =P

Dunno about the discoloration but perhaps the previous owner did not care much about temps and fried it at 90C or had terrible settings for the fan to keep it silent.

it was likely more the previous caretakers of the card that caused the bulk of the wear and tear.

I do my best but always look to keep my things organized as adding/culling from the herd. also this being the coolest running card she was kept appropriately wherever the hottest place would be.

thanks that is exactly what i was thinking of and know precisely where to find it locally.

thanks again, found a slew of items that could help i this regard.. and although i am not positive its what helped, the gpu is hashing away again.

i think the bulk of the wear and tear came from the card likely being sold every time bitcoin dipped, then litecoin, then dogecoin etc..

i bet some of our gpu's could really tell some stories.

anyways lessons learned, light is your friend when doing this kind of thing. also, magnifying glasses or loups min 4x

also a sharp etching pen to run between the leads of any "overspray" is wise.

when i have time i'm going to go back in and re trace every lead and scratch between each one.. i am getting better hashrate so guessing more cores are initiating, but think it can do better.
