Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.

Yup. Exciting times to be a Litecoin holder. When it hits $1 we can also expect a surge of new adopters rushing in.

Against BTC it has a ways to go (0.00869 btc on 10/12/2012) but normal people should be impressed.

Measuring against BTC isn't that great a measure because it's fluctuated so much. Makes a lot more sense to compare it something relatively constant like USD.

LOL, yeah, keep comparing it to that which consistently depreciates so that you can claim consistent upward trending.

It is important to base the comparison on multiple currencies to get a clearer picture of performance.

comparing ltc/btc when btc/usd was less then 10$ dosnt make sense when its +47 now ... the usd was called relatively stable it lost a bit since start of year but no where near same % wise, so much more stable... stop trolling

You call it trolling, I call it critical thinking.

BTC and LTC are both up against the dollar so calling LTC up because it is up against the dollar is myopic. I contend that the dollar has simply depreciated and unless you are comparing some other metric it is safe to assume LTC has not moved in any direction. Now, if you are willing to start putting other comparisons into the mix we might be able to agree that there is positive or negative movement. The USD is a terrible singular comparison as it has consistently depreciated for a very long time; calling it stable is laughable. One of the central issues in this type of discussion (aka trolling) is that there is no real exchange to relate other metrics to. We can compare one crypto to another and we get to see how those relate to USD/EUR/RUB but show me the comparison to say AU/AG or Corn or Pork Bellies in terms that are not using the USD as the intermediary for comparison.

I have some price lists and plots using different base currencies that can be fun for seeing the same data from different points of view:

I never thought my life could be. Anything but catastrophe. But suddenly I begin to see. A "BIT" of good luck for me. Cause I've got a golden ticket!

BTC-E is the easiest place I am aware of.

Been trying to buy some litecoins for the last 2 weeks and have given up.

Tried BTC-E, using OKPay was the only way with a visa debit, but despite linking the card with status 'successful', no payments will go through. Chatting with OKPay support (who I presume are russian) their only advise was to find a website that takes mastercard, huh ?

So if anyone knows of a way, please let me know

Bank -> Dwolla -> Mtgox -> BTC -> BTC-e -> LTC

This is the path I have used or:

Cash -> Bitinstant -> Mtgox -> BTC -> BTC-e -> LTC

I have used Second Life Lindens --> VirWox (trade for BTC) --> BTC-E --> LTC

Get an SL account, attach a credit card or Paypal to it then buy Lindens. After buying Lindens visit a VirWox machine inside SL and sign up for VirWox. After that you can pay the VirWox machine with Lindens and it will go to your VirWox account online where you can trade it for BTC.

This may take a little bit to get going but once it is set up it's pretty fast.
