Hello,
as a newbie, I can't write on the dedicated thread so I'm asking here.
I would like to buy some bitcoins, and it seems that BTC-e is one of the exchanges with the lowest price.
Questions:
1) would you say it's reliable? (I've seen they survived a DDOS attack recently and there are people that might consider it less safe than Mt.Gox)
2) any alternatives? (for a lower price than Mt.Gox)
3) Assuming no alternatives, what's the easiest/cheapest way to fund it? They mention OKpay with 1% fee but then OKpay charges another 1% to load funds in its wallet so we are already at 2% fees. Is this really the case?

Yeah you know it's tough, because of all the things fluctuating in the bitcoin world. But I have used BTC e a lot So I guess I will give my input. I think long term reliability, I have no idea, I know it is based in Russia (or somewhere like that Liqpay etc.,) But short term, ya it is a pretty great.

I would actually suggest getting the bitcoins from somewhere else. (I actually like bitstamp a lot). I have used but ALWAYS thought bitstant was shady (now under attack who would a thought) Then transferring them there when you are interested in trading whether it be USD or other coins. Then withdraw asap.

Again I honestly think OKPAY is the best, once you get money on OKPAY, you can use it for tons of stuff (I suggest the debit card too, awesome limits!!) Other is Liqpay, which kinda sucks, again I think BTC-e is great if you can already transfer whether OKPAY or Bitcoin, and then use afterwards. I have even gotton a paypal withdrawal in 24 hrs!! (Tell me anyone else who does that!!)

Even with 2% fees, BTC-e is cheaper (at the moment) than bitstamp. So, for example, for argument's sake, let's say price in BTC-e is $44.9 right now, so imagine full cost including funding commissions and trading fees is $46 for example. Bitstamp orderbook is around $46.5 and MtGox even higher, above $47. If I want to buy bitcoins BTC-e seems the cheapest. Not sure about transfer fees to other wallets though. So let's say I buy some and then want to move them out to my own wallet or blockchain. Is the whole operation going to cost me more than buying them at bitstamp or MtGox?

I have been using BTCe and it has been reasonably well performing and witout bad incident, FOR MR.  I gues that they did have a DoSS attack... but really, I can;t hold that against them too much/// everything going has been hit... everything in the BTC realm but also almost all of the big banks... though the press doesn't cover it much because the banks are fearful of people losing confidence.

In the states it can be hard to move dollars into btc.  A couple of providers are out there, but there are mixed results.  Avoid coinbase.  Too many shadey stories about them.

I have heard that bitfloor and btcquick are good but haven't used them yet.

I used OKPAY, I use OKPAY for everything. It's accepted by SOO many vendors, even for other currencies. Just getting verified is a bit of a pain, but after that it is smooth sailing. I can even make WU or MG or instant transfer deposits if I'm too lazy to wait for a bank transfer. So I would say that is the best way. Liqpay is hit or miss it has worked like half the time for me depending on my card. But in general it sucks, (Oh this is US located btw if ur Europe you can do almost whatever.) and the other options I have no clue what they even are.

Ya they been around since 2011, I like them too for now. I might buy some LTC too just cause there sparking up, too. Just have no idea how to use Litecoin software, but thats ok for now I guess.

And so you basically pay 2% total fee to transfer USD to BTC via OKPay? Or do I have that wrong?
I'm in Europe (UK actually) but I have a US bank account and could use that if more convenient. In fact, because there's more liquidity in USD/BTC exchanges I thought of transacting with USD, for this reason alone. I was expecting to be able to have minimal if not zero fees in transferring back and forth, I'm extremely surprised that competition hasn't brought transaction fees for purely electronic transfers to almost zero (like the $0.25 that dwolla charges)

Yeah you just have to deal with it, if you want nearly no fees, I mean even bitinstant has something. I just deal with it it's not so bad as long as u do it as needed. And once u get a card it's even better. I also recommend OKPAY!!

For nearly no fees, I guess just trading. Or if someone else has input. But ill pay the couple percent to have security and more than one way to access, get, and use my money. I think looking at other exchanges might help too, but I think most the time ur goanna get the bad side of a deal. Ill pay the 2% also not to get scammed lol. Good luck!!

Oh, so it's actually 2% PLUS OKPay's fees, and these are at least 1% (for wire transfer) plus whatever my bank will charge
So basically we are looking at a minimum of 3%. 
And then if I want to transfer the bitcoins to my own wallet, do you know what's the charge? (if any)
