Identity theft/fraud is a big thing nowadays.

So just a question - Are you guys comfortable with going on sites and verifying your ID with you and legal proof? I'm personally not, because on the internet anything can happen.

I also do not feel comfortable, I give up buying bitcoin using paypal because they asked me many documents.

This site https://localbitcoins.com when I bought bitcoin asked me selfie, photo of my ID and screenshot of my paypal account and sent me to write a handwritten document which I signed. I never understood why you need all this, then I buy bitcoin using Payza and give up buying bitcoin using paypal.

At least 3 exchanges have my selfies and address/bills. That sucks. It's a silly move, when i think back. However.

The least I could do is to watermark all those photos aggressively. If one day my info were leaked, scammers can't use it as much as they wished they could.

Honestly its risky to share and use your real identity in online because many news are hacking your bank accounts and sometimes i heard that someone are arrested by using bitcoin.. its better to dont share unless you are using paypal to verified it.

If you do not share your information, you cannot buy bitcoins easily. Without ID, you can buy bitcoins -- but at a premium, such as using the service of Virwox. ~20-25% premium.

I do not like it at all, its a sort of privacy that is falling away in my eyes and I think its also not worth it to be honest.
If it gets hacked or something they have all my details, its not comfortable if you are asking me..

Sometimes companies ask for proof of identity or they won't deal with you. It depends really on what service is asking for all the information. Sometimes companies are required by government to ask all this information. So when we talk about electricity, water, television, rent of house and health insurance I don't see the problem to provide mine ID. Other services you have always ask yourself the question is it really needed to provide all this info. Besides all companies could be possible victim of hackers.

Thanks to put up a nice question.I am too concerned about the same thing though. However there are many people who puts up their ID as they have no option left and has to get things done.Personally I am not comfortable with putting ID online but I had putted my ID online in some sites which are reputed.

I'm also not liking this but sometimes there is no way to do this without a id so I still do it sometimes I even used a fake id to make a transactions because I do not like it, never of course scammed or something just for my security!

Using fake ID is not cool .If you are caught then they may close your account and you may not be further able to use up their services.

I also do not like it when I have to do this and a fake ID is not the answer too it also, I think for some its legit and logical but for other services I just find it not acceptable.
Its how you look at it, your details can land on the streets,,,

I have given my id for verification only to payment processors like neteller and skrill. Lately also to xbtce as they don't even allow to withdraw even 1$ without verification. Other than xbtce i am sure they will not give my id to others as they have lots of ids in their database. I don't find problem giving my id to reputed service provider and payment processor if it is required.

Obviously No, i dont want to put my legal dox on any sites or in social medias i dont wamt to get compromise by identity thiefs and many bad possibilities will happen if we let our dox in public so we need to be vigilant more and get extra more carefull cyber world is most dangerous rather than in real life.

I am comfortable with a few sites, but I am not at all comfortable putting uploading or giving my ID to anyone to any of the bitcoin sites. Don't feel comfortable sending it to even gambling sites. I am also a trader on localbitcoins, and see people send me fake ID's of some other guy, and clearly these are cases of identity theft.

I can't put my id information or real identity online its risky and they can use it to earn more money.. Some hackers they are using it as referral or signup purposes to earn by referal sign ups or using it to hide their real identity.. so better to stay away or don't share it unless you are sharing your identity in well known and trusted website like paypal..

It is true that nobody wants to put his ID online for any thing that is the main reason Bitcoin is booming and that too in gambling and similar fields. As their are so many frauds going with the duplicating the ID details given on sites and even some more details are get forged. So it is not recommended to use id online and for that Bitcoin use is very good.

I really wish I could, but I refuse to. Identity theft is a huge problem nowadays as you say, and no site is safe from being hacked, because there are only three types of sites: One that's been hacked and admits it, and one that's been hacked and doesn't admit it, and one that's been hacked and doesn't notice it.

It really depends on a website. If we re talking about some large exchange with known owners, following AML and having millions of users, I m probably more comfortable then sending data to you local online beting website run from some garage.

Do not forget, anonymity s one of the traits which hurts BTC the most. It attracts scammers and ponzi operators and scares away real investors and large venture investments. Why? Cause 90% of people who seek anonymity, do that cause they deal with something illegal.

That is true if its a really big party that is trusted by a lot of people, I already think its okay and will do this but if its a small company with some reviews, I do not feel comfortable to really do it because I think they will finally give it to someone else or something..
