DAO IS HACKED SO WHAT HAPPENS TO ETH COIN?

I believe that it was said that the DAO is going to be shutting down and will convert to a contract that only allows people to withdraw their ETH.

Also from what I can tell, a lot of people were buying ETH for no reason other then to "invest" in the DAO, so if the DAO is no longer around, then most of the people who own/were buying ETH would no longer have a reason to own ETH.

I don't believe peope buy DAO for ETH, I thik DAO is one application of ETH, The Dao is Shutted down, The people of own Dao will get the ETH, the other application will appear ，for example lisk.

So the miners having 51% mining power can decide the fork or any code any way. There is no moral hazard. There is no argument at all. You just need to convince the majority of the miners.

Somebody here actually understands PoW = miners are a "decentralized authority".

Ethereum miners have started voting in some pools on the "soft fork"...
The "soft fork" simply freezes all ETH transfers from the DAO contract (rendering the current "attacks" unprofitable)...
And there are roughly another 25 days left for miners to simply set a flag that locks up the DAO.

Looking at these numbers...
It's very likely miners will subsequently vote in a "hard fork" that will destroy the DAO... and return all ETH to investors.

Miners acting as a "decentralized authority" on ANY issue is at the heart of PoW.

I agree with you. For the time being, the Ethereum is still supported by the miners, it is still profitable to mine.

And I simply convert it to BTC.  So the beat goes on.  Yeah the numbers read 680 in usd now they read 345 a month.  but power cost = 140  and that is still  a profit.

A fix has been made.  WIll the events make ETH coin a big winner  loser or more or less neutral?

cast a vote from now until 26 days from now.   We will know if fix fails in 27 days.

My thoughts are  if the fix takes  just after the BTC ½ ing ETH coin will soar over $50.00

The ETC price was about 0.45 ETH around 2nd August. The price of ETC is just 0.14 ETH now. That was a drop of 70%.
