It has been hacked, no matter what the devs do the result is going to be negative. I would sell while ether stills has some value left.

It Never has been safe. Low hash rate PoW chain, devs hold most premine, Solidity code , large attack surface, poorly reviewed code , turing complete, ect... Now some of the developers are looking at ruining the reputation of their chain by pushing an emergency HF through to target a specific user and steal his ETH's that were , according to smart contract law " within the DAO correctly and legally transferred to him.

I wish this was all a joke and it isn't fear mongering , but the Hard cold reality that Ether holders are begining to realize.

It hasn't been hacked. The DAO has. However it looks like the devs might cook up a little hack themselves.

Very true. Many peoples Eth's are frozen on Poloniex and as soon as that is "hacked" or unfrozen expect a larger crash

The dao being hacked directly affects eth though since the two are connected. All it takes is for the hacker to turn those dao back into eth and eth is compromised. If the hacker can steal that much dao and dump it back into eth then it would be a total disaster for eth.

you don't have to sell your coins. if it was eth that was hacked than now it would be to late so sell. but it is not eth. it is dao that have problems.

When the bitcoin started in 2009, the hash rate was also very low. At the moment, it is difficult to 51% attack it, you need lots of mining power.

Without any action whatsoever...
The hacked ETH is locked for 27 days for the Child DAO "token creation"... so it's not going anywhere soon.

Here is the central problem:

"It's clear that writing a robust, secure smart contract requires extreme amounts of diligence.
It's more similar to writing code for a nuclear power reactor, than to writing loose web code."

Just like a nuclear reactor, Ethereum is as safe as the quality of it's engineers...
And this is REALLY BAD news for LISK (and other platforms bolting on smart contracts)...
Who are floating the notion that random JS web coders can whip up safe smart contracts.
