Hi, i have an AMD XFX 7970 and i'm trying to underclock the memory clock, but i can't make it go lower than 1200 MHz (Catalyst Minimun clock), every time i try to do so,(with sapphire trixx or msi afterburner) my pc freezes, what can i do?

try underclocking the GPU core very very slightly iv seen that do amazing things to help the memory

you might have hit the limit of the minimum memory clock speeds for that card also you could try undervolting very very slightly if theres and option for it

if that dosnt work the only other way is to modify the bios on your card which isnt really worth it because if something goes horribly wrong you end up with and expensive paper weight

i cant change the voltage, it's locked on this card
what you say is that i have to underclock the gpu core and then try underclocking the memory clock?

Usually intervals of two to five work when trying to underclock. Then stress test it, then if it fails, lower it again, repeat process until everything is suitable.

Though, it could also be an issue with sufficient wattage going to the graphics card, you could have less than the required. Can you possibly post your specs?

I can never get the memory clocks to go down below stock speeds even on the "overclocking edition" of the cards.

ok well your pretty much at the bottom level of basic underclocking there are more advanced ways but they can be highly highly risky to try and do

Even if the voltage is locked you should be able to get it down/up at least to idle/load values. Install asus GPU tweak and check the options menu.
