50 LTC for no reason?

I started mining LTC last night with the wallet appliation and received 50 LTC this morning, but the date that it says I mined it is March 19, 2013... 8 days from now

interesting i assume you where solomining? if so you got very lucky and managed to get a very very short block and got the whole reward to yourself as for the date im not really sure might just be a glitch

yes depending what you want to exchange them into theres a few places also check if the confirmed on the overview page

id say dont get use to it theres a freak glitch happend somewhere and its unlikely to happen again

You just did make that much, but the likelihood of making that much again is slim.  It could take months or a year before you see another 50 LTC.

Also, wow, LTC is $0.41 now?  That's nuts... glad I've been trading the NMC I mine for them.

Keep in mind that probabilities win out in the end.  If you make ~10 cents per 3 hours at current difficulty/price, it will take you approximately 25 days on average to solo-mine another block.  If the difficulty goes up, it will take even longer.  Given infinite time, you should earn the same amount mining solo as you would mining through a pool.

How do you know when your solo mining is working in Litecoin anyway?

I was trying to figure that one out myself, when I start mining in the litecoin client the pickaxes at the bottom just say "Mining at 0 hashes per second" I'm not even sure if it's doing anything. GPU pool mining with the GUI miner seems to be working fine for me though.
