so this place runs on SMF reading points to phpbb and yet others talk about mybb

so what is the best choice when you are looking for ease of use and security?

SMF is good choice. Many high profile sites run SMF without being hacked even once, like Bitcointalk, Silk Road Forums and HackBB.
