No, read the OP, there was no ICO.
Holders of Bitstarcoin burned some of them in order to receive a proportional share of the issued BATL to establish a vested interest without needing to resort to selling coins under an ICO/IPO.

can BITS holders be a part of this experiment as well? What would the future of BITS be with the team focusing on BATL? I missed the opportunity to be a part of this project as I was away. Would really appreciate your comment on this.

Hmm, as yet none the wiser. However, as a "vested interest" participant I continue to be mightily intrigued by BATL (despite all the caveats!) - looking forward to price discovery

The BITS community were invited to participate in the distribution process earlier this year and there was quite a lead up time to it taking place, giving everybody a chance to learn about the project. The details are in the BITS OP https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=748045.msg8448444#msg8448444

Not much info for something that's been out for a while There isn't more info to provide, that's why. BATL is a PoS coin based on the Blackcoin PoSv3 codebase. It isn't meant to be bleeding-edge technology because it needs to be a reliable and dependable coin network where the dev team, and the community for that matter, are incentivised to agree to requests for modifications and/or forks which might be needed in the process of developing and releasing the commercial app. The coin is not the experiment here, the commitment to cooperation and collaboration between a public open-source coin network and a private commercial entity is the experiment.

It is not yet on exchanges but lissen this: There were over 5 million bitstar coins burned over to receive batl. That about 25% of bitstar coin supply. Market will eventually decide price of this and price of bitstar with reduced coin supply.

No. The initial buy from BITS to BATL has already happened and ended. So the only way to get BATL now is at the exchange once it is added to one. But BITS may be used & burned again for future projects like this.

<snip> 1. its primary purpose will be to provide the basis for the digital-token component of a commercial app in development by a private group headed by forum member, 'T3CLtd'. 2. The coin will be put on suitable exchanges by its development team <snip>
Curious, when will you be able to share more info about this commercial app? Also, when do you expect this to be put on the exchanges by you guys?

The likely next piece of information to be shared about the commercial app will simply be the timeframe for the release of the beta version for open testing.
The application to have the coin hosted on Bittrex will be made soon enough. There needs to be a period of monitoring the current wallet to ensure it and the network functions reliably and consistently beforehand, though.

Check wallet by typing "checkwallet" onto Batl rpc console without quotes. If it finds errors then after that type "repairwallet". It should fix things.

You have to sync network from beginning. Take backup from wallet.dat.

OK, I try that. OK. Redownloaded the whole blockchain and now, my last block is the same than the one on the blockexplorer, and now, my tx are visible too. BUT all that I've staked with the old wallet since the distribution has gone :-( Is it *really* worth staking this coin if one loose all the fees when he upgrades his binary???

Ordinarily that would not happen. A non-forking wallet update simply continues to use the same blockchain data as that created by the previous wallet version. Unfortunately, even though you were staking, you were essentially sat on your own version of the blockchain for some reason. The blocks you were creating through your staking only existed on the blockchain that was stored on your desktop computer. When you fixed the problem you ended up correctly replacing your blockchain data with the actual live BATL blockchain, which would not have had the staked blocks you had been creating on your isolated blockchain. The block reward is earned in return for supporting the network through active staking so, seeing as you clearly were wanting to do so but ended up on a forked chain, please pm me a BATL address along with an estimate of how many coins you had earned and I will arrange for you to be reimbursed for those 'lost' staking rewards. Hopefully you will be able to continue staking successfully from this point forward.

I upgraded a few days after the release (1 week or 2). That's why I don't understand why all the coins I earnt before the release of the 2nd wallet are gone. I will pm you a batl address within a few minutes. Thanks for your kind proposal.

It would suggest that you were on your own fork from pretty much the beginning of your staking then. The blockchain you were writing locally was not being accepted by the BATL mainnet and when you upgraded to the PoS-only wallet it would have simply carried on from the dataset you had already stored locally. That is why none of your staking rewards remained after you re-downloaded the correct blockchain, because they were never on the live blockchain.

Concerning - not least because none of my own anti-virus programs (Hitmanpro, Malwarebytes or Norton) picked this up. They all returned clear results re the program - BattlestarCoin-Qt (OSS GUI client for BattlestarCoin). Which is no longer working properly: starts up ok, gets active connections but doesn't start syncing and after a few minutes the number of connections reduces to zero and the program stops (OS is Windows 10 64 bit). I think maybe I should wait until this virus question identified by dollux is resolved before attempting to resync the wallet

No issues from the wallet here, either, in staking or virus reports. Currently running a full scan now just to check but it is quite a common thing for crypto wallets to trigger false positives in virus scanning software.

The virus I had encounter in my Battlestars wallet was from somewhere else and was being injected into the wallet from my computer. Just to make it clear, as far as I know there are NO viruses in the Battlestars wallet its self, I sorted the issue out and down loaded another wallet, installed it and everything is fine now. Thanks to everybody for any information provided and I am sorry for any concerns this may have raised.

Just in case anyone experiences same problem (as described in post #45) and not sure how to proceed: Having backed up the roaming folder to a separate location, I deleted the 2 db folders and the blk0001.dat file and restarted the wallet. Resyncing took several hours. Wallet now fully synced and staking.

There were talks with dev today on Bitstar forum regarding development for bits and he told that batl is beeing first on line and after that bits will have update.

You could have looked up a few posts in this page to see I had posted only a few weeks ago, too.
Please consider also that it is currently the middle of the Summer holiday season.
The application to Bittrex is being made for BATL, an update in this regards will be posted accordingly.

Have you been regularly consolidating the outputs in coin control (assuming you have coin control enabled in preferences)? If not, can you check and post what transaction count you have in send>inputs If anybody else has been staking regularly please do let us know what numbers you currently have for transaction inputs and if you consolidate them occasionally or not.

I have had my wallet staking almost 24/7 since it was released.
Have you been regularly consolidating the outputs in coin control (assuming you have coin control enabled in preferences)? What does this mean: "consolidating the outputs"? And what is "coin control"? What daemon command is matching this preference? I don't see anything looking like this using "battlestarcoind help"... If not, can you check and post what transaction count you have in send>inputs
Again, what daemon command is matching this? If anybody else has been staking regularly please do let us know what numbers you currently have for transaction inputs and if you consolidate them occasionally or not.
I'm staking 24/7 from the begining too and did nothing else than staking. Should I have "consolidate"? How?

Consolidation is the process of sending multiple inputs as a single output back to yourself.
Most PoS coins suffer from the problem of excessive inputs being created as the staking process splits up the address balance over and over again and the staking amounts become smaller.
In time you can end up with thousands of inputs which can cause a send to fail because the transaction size in bytes becomes too large.
Coin Control is an optional check box under preference which, once ticked, will show a button labelled 'inputs' on the send screen. This opens up another screen showing all the input transactions which make up the balance for that address. If you were to send the balance back to yourself the number of inputs returns to one.
If the number of inputs is excessive and you try and process a send which fails you need to reduce the number of inputs which the transaction consists of. This is done by selecting a batch of inputs manually and sending the amount of coins they add up to, which will be displayed when you have selected them and then clicked on the OK button in that screen. The Send screen will show you the details automatically based on the number of inputs you have selected. If you send the total amount it shows for that selection of inputs then they will all be sent and consolidated into the one input as I described.
As for trying to accomplish the same thing through battlestarcoind, I wouldn't know unfortunately. I'll ask the dev if he can help.

I spoke with the dev and the coin control functionality only exists within the qt wallet, which is what I suspected. Another way to consolidate, if you can't select the inputs, is to try sending a transaction back to yourself for the largest coin amount it will successfully process. I imagine the most efficient method is if you start by doing a send for half of your balance and, if it fails, reducing it by half again until a transaction does get processed. Although it occurs to me that if you then follow that with another send for the same amount it will simply use the same single input that just arrived from the first transaction. So I think you'll need to increase each subsequent send by slightly less than the sum of (the previous successful transaction)+(the amount that first one was for) E.G. If you can send a maximum of 1000BATL in that first transaction you send to yourself, then the second transaction should be for slightly less than 2000BATL and the third one for slightly less than 3000BATL etc. etc. Let us know how you get on.

Well scratch that. I have over 30k inputs and the biggest amount I can send is 750k BATL.
So to have function that would limit the size is surely needed or automatically consolidate.
Time to tidy up.

Bittrex asked if we could explain more about my company's app under development to ensure that the outcome of the collaboration with BATL isn't to release an inappropriate or illegal platform, so an NDA is being signed in order to do so.

For everyone that has issues combining inputs on batl: Combining input manually on pos wallets is pain in ass if you have not keep up those down from growing in time. My situtation is like that and have over 40000 inputs on wallet. As you know you can manually select approx. 500 inputs per transaction. So I decided to find alternative solution to Space+Down keycombo. I found program called AutoHotKey. That allows user to create script files to be runned on certain situtation. So I created script file that is called by pressing Alt+q. When keys are pressed script check current active window if it is named as Coin Control (this window name check purpose is to prevent illegal operation on other windows and programs and must be localized for different wallet language). After if window name check passes it send 492 keykombos to that window by selecting inputs. User has to make sure that he/she selects first available input from where script is run downwards. And also makes sure that there is 492 selectable inputs on same address. I made also keycombo Shift+Alt+W that reverts selections upwards. If you are intrested on this please let me know.

I can confirm that little tool works really well for the task, having used it myself. Exchange-wise we are pleased to announce that the next release of the decentralised exchange Bitsquare.io will be including BATL. I recommend people download the current Bitsquare client to familiarise yourself with it. Having a decentralised trading functionality will be a great way for a market to develop outside of the usual risks associated with centralised exchanges. This coin is getting close to 10 months old now but I still have no idea what this coin is really about. Some more visible development / progress this year on this coin would be nice. Crossing fingers. I agree! At the very least a message from/on behalf of the developer(s) confirming that the project is still ongoing...or not, as the case may be

As has been pointed out before, real-world research, development and agreements take considerably longer than the timespan many people in crypto are willing to give in their rush to flip a profit for a couple of mouse-clicks of effort on an exchange.
I'd like to mention again that this project has not been funded through an ICO or any kind of token sale, it is being developed along two fronts by my firm and the coin developers from our own resources. In order for us to be able to post more details of the situation we need to complete a number of steps which cannot be discussed publicly as they involve ongoing confidential commercial negotiations.
Anybody familiar with the nature of business knows that it would be foolish and unprofessional to talk of prospective gains until they have been agreed and committed to contractually. Until that point absolutely anything can occur which delays or even derails the process. All being well we will update you as soon as able with exciting news.

Is this chain still under development?
A fair enough question given that it's now some 2.5 months since T3CLtd's last post.

The 'Chain' isn't under development at this point, the BATL coin network is simply operational as it is supposed to be.
The commercial App which will utilise BATL, however, is still under development and we will be releasing an update on this in the very near future. Thank you for your patience.

So is anyone interested in adding BATL to the voting on Nova Exchange? https://novaexchange.com/addcoin/ Obviously this is highly speculative at this point, but it doesn't hurt to have an exchange for people who want to buy/sell. I don't have all the technical info they are asking for handy, although I could probably gather it together. Could be a community project here on the forum as we wait.

Yes, good idea, although I wouldn't anticipate anyone wanting to buy BATL until at least the update re the 'commercial App' has been issued - T3CLtd's 27 March post refers.

It's my own fault that I am still burning up memory space on my computer keeping a chrome tab open to refresh for updates...lol...they never come. I'll close it after this. Maybe revisit in a year or so.

Now that the coin is on an exchange (with more to follow in time I hope) I took the liberty of adding it to the voting on cryptofolio.info here: http://www.cryptofolio.info/welcome/vote You can vote once per hour, so get voting! (If you haven't used cryptofolio.info before I highly recommend it as a way to keep track of your portfolio. Make sure to donate if you use it regularly.)

With regards to the expected announcement, we're still caught up in RL legalities unfortunately so cannot yet provide further information.
All is still making progress, albeit significantly slower at this point than we'd choose to be. Once past this stage we will be able to offer more regular updates.

Opening the wallet once every few months to update the chain but not staking - looks like the server is still running. Not giving up on BATL yet.

It's not about buying too late, it's about selling too early. Buy and hold. Longterm. 10+ years.

Here's some: 164.132.19.178:16914 85.144.44.151:16914 79.137.126.63:16914 59.147.36.224:16914 As for project news, we're still here diligently working through small-print issues and hoping to reach final resolution before much longer.

No, read the OP, there was no ICO.
Holders of Bitstarcoin burned some of them in order to receive a proportional share of the issued BATL to establish a vested interest without needing to resort to selling coins under an ICO/IPO.
very complicated
