...Continue the FUD...

What FUD? Only a fool could possibly take these headlines seriously...and me having to point out that they are fake really ruins it.

Seriously, the newbies here will believe anything they see, especially with a title like that.

It's an inside developer joke which I must not reveal, but I can say that it has to do with a high volume of economically unspendable transactions.

Let's wear it with pride!

Now that's awesome. But from what I'm reading, the bug was actually in 0.7. Version 0.8 just made it apparent.

well my understanding is that if there wasn't a bitcoin 0.8 then there wouldn't be any forking, or spooning or whatever...

I guess if there was never another release after 0.7 then there wouldn't be a problem but the bug was in the 0.7 code not the 0.8 code.

so can we call it a feature, not a bug?

Most probably not, it's a bug. The problem is that 0.8 created blocks that SHOULD have been okay, but apparently were not accepted by 0.7 on account of a bug. It was 0.7 that did not behave according to specification (because of a bug). I could be wrong though but that's my understanding.

it's funny Smiley

These headlines are funny. But the block chain fork isn't. There was a serious problem and if it wasn't for the heroic efforts of the developers, miners, and business owners (Blockchain.info, SatoshiDICE, mtgox, et. al.) working together to identify the problem and fix it as expediently as possible, Bitcoin could have taken on permanent damage.
