I also do the same it was a lesson for all of us who often kept their money in exchanges, and those online wallets which do not have any good review or history are also not good for keeping our bitcoins in there , as they also can be hacked.
even there is some people used an exchange as their online wallet lol ,

as bitcoin wallet is private , you should not tell and held your private key to anyone ,
by storing bitcoin in third party like an exchange and other online wallet which you did not hold the private key , you are just giving away your bitcoin.
Private key has always become a general things before you're wanna for saving your money in a place, and maybe I know if you are trader and anytime you don't have a time for moving your funds into your wallet but for the normal people is not a traders and keep their money in exchange site. stupid ever.
many times i heard about people used an exchange as their wallet ,
yepp it is pretty stupid especially when you are storing about a lot of money ,
the hacked exchange should be our lesson to not go full 100% trust ,
even an exchange have a very trusted reputation.

If that is a cheap exchange website then it is likely to steal a person with a lot of bitcoin that will be stored. But for those who are known they have the thinking that trust is essential for that certain exchange to survive. Though some end up being a scam site.

no one would definitely choose unfamous   exchanger   if they are actually dumb to  put their money on those sites. As of now i think poloniex,btc-e,c-cex,yobit, bittrex is quite  famous on exchange sites as of now but  theres also a risk  on all of those exchange sites thats why i didnt put all my money their if i got profits i usually  withdraw it directly.

The story with Bitfinex teached all of us that it is too risky to hold all of your coins on one exchanger. Thanks God I wasn't holding my bitcoins there. I use Yobit and Blockchain. I like Yobit the most it is very easy to use and the  page is in different languages that is very useful if you are not so good in English.

That is why I just put a small percentage of the coins in the exchange to do the trade. I keep most coins in my own wallet.

Never keep coins anywhere except investments and your wallet and not for a long time either. You can always withdraw instantly in casino's etc so never a reason to leave your bitcoin there either.
It's like going to a casino and leaving your money there to pick it up the next week not so smart, be safe.

Not sure what myethwallet is, is it an online wallet service? I couldn't find a website or Android app for it, I'd be careful about using obscure apps/services. If it is an online wallet service then I would suggest that you have a look at Coinbase instead, they are trusted, regulated and provide insurance against hacks and thefts, plus they have mobile apps. I've been using them for a long time and have never had any problems. And since they're an online service, you'll be able to access your coins from any device without needing to install an app.

Never keep ANY coin on ANY exchange.

Fixed.

Please people, learn to put your coins in your own local wallets where you control the private keys, never have coins in exchanges. How many times this has to be said? I guess some people never learn.

Even for how many times you will remind them there is still other member's here are  still stubborn into it. I agreed not to put all bitcoin in all exchange platform we invest. We must put it in our local wallets.

Indeed for us to avoid a victim of a scammer, just every time we earn in the different exchange platform  we should transfer it at once into our local bitcoin wallet address.

People won't learn until they experience it Even though they got bad experience, they'll do it again and again. So there's no point telling them repeatedly about this problem.
Most people on this forum are pretty smart and you have to be pretty stupid to keep all your Bitcoin on an exchange. Most people learn from other peoples' mistakes and the bitfinex hacking would have shown a lot of people not to keep Bitcoin in an exchange.

That's right, because they have a brain for think about that and not all people is always ever having experience about that, and I think there are a people just seeing about the experience for another people for them to learning about that.

It's all about greed and laziness.
Some people keep money on exchanges because they try to trade or to be first in line if a major drop in the price happens - then they will buy and wait for the correction to get some money.
Some other people keep money on exchanges nowadays to lend for a few cents (I do that too with small amounts).
Some do trading every day.

There are many reasons to keep money on exchanges. Of course, people has to be aware of the risks. I am.

I agree with this  many exchanger cannot be trusted my friend already send coin to other exchange but there is no coin receiving in her wallet,  Angry always take care when you send your coin to other exchanges.

Yes the problem of exchanges not receiving deposit  is normal, just file a support ticket and they will look at the issue.  It happen to me several times and after filing a support ticket, they fix it.  About keeping the coins, it would be wise if you spread out your coins to avoid losing them all when something happen to the exchange.  Just what happen in cryptsy, on of my friend keep all his coin in it and lost it when cryptsy shutdown.
The problem is hackers always try to hack a exchange' cold storage wallet for the simple reason that they can easily earn a lot of money doing so, so while the exchange might not really intend to scam still they might end up scamming because of the hackers being always irritating them and sometimes even succeeding.

I agree, there are lots of history where people who left their coins in exchange lost everything.  GOX and  Cryptsy are the bigger one, and there are some small exchanges too like sharex that just close and run with their client's Coin not saying the one posting this message have First hand experience of losing coins to an exchange/trading platform that shutdown.

exchanges being hacked or gone scam is a bad point in bitcoin reputation because people think bitcoin itself has something to do with these accidents. it only individuals fault that they trust those sites

Well of course never keep all your coins in one place. Period let along on an exchange wallet.
That is obviously the worst thing you can possibly do to your stash of bitcoins right now with all that has happened in the last month. Embarrassed

Yeah... I've experience this when my first time knowing about exchanger. I was keep my fund on mintpal , the great exchanger just like poloniex and bittrex. I wasn't being expect that great exchanger can be down / vanish. So from that day, I have transfer about 75% stored coin on my current exchanger ( poloniex and bittrex ) into my local exchanger

Yes, storing money on a single exchange is never the best idea. I think for keeping money we should use wallets that are not controlled by someone like the offline bitcoin wallets. And if you are really looking for keeping money on exchange then at least spread among 3-4 sites.

I have some coins on my exchange but these are not all on one exchange these are on different exchanges in little amounts so I do not have any fear to lose them as it will not be such a huge lose for me relative to my other bitcoins on my wallet.

Would you guys recommend storing your coins on myethwallet? They allow storing different kinds of coins as far as i know. And so are shapeshift. Storing coins in these app can help me access them anywhere with just my Tablet.
I will not comment on this but I can suggest you a few alternatives which are : holytransaction, blockchain ( for only btc ) , dogechain ( for doge coins ) , poloniex and many others
Note : I am not at all saying these sites will nevr scam but they are running since long time.

Technically, blockchain.info would be the safest of those listed (based on the ones I know), as you can get your private key. That said, you will never be safe unless you hold your coins locally and keep them highly protected. No online site is going to change that.
