Once a transaction has 6 confirmations, it is extremely unlikely that an attacker without at least 50% of the network's computation power would be able to reverse it.

I respect davinci's opinion, and agree that the best time to buy them was in 2011 after the bubble popped. In fact I did buy a bunch at that time but they were later stolen from my bitcoinica account.  Angry

However I have bought some just recently because I have the opinion that this rally could go a lot further yet. I'm thinking towards $200 is not unrealistic. Perhaps higher if it goes like the peak of 2011 again.

Perhaps its a risky strategy but I seem much more upside potential in bitcoins than gold or silver in the short term.

I sold  completely at $23 then bit the bullet at $31 and bought in again with half my stash.

On the way to $48 I've been selling enough to maintain 50% value in USD and BTC. Similar now, when we are in a slow slide, I just buy enough to have equal amounts in BTC and USD.

I works like clockwork, no need to speculate about the future. I we have an out of the blue major crash, I still recover by having USD in hand to buy at the bottom.

Has this 50% strategy got a name? Are there any downfalls or gotchas?

Rebalancing too often will eat through your stash with fees.  Not often enough and you miss the opportunity.  If you can do it on bitfloor or another exchange that pays you when your standing order is taken, it's a little easier since you don't have to deal with the fees.
